Chapter 484
Amelia’s POV
I was still somewhat nervous about the meeting. I knew Jeffery was reputable. I had seen his photo online, so this was not a case of mistaken identity or anything else. But, maybe it was because of the weight Damien had placed on those memories, the idea of learning them now was somewhat frightening
I knew Damien and the bodyguards wouldn’t allow me to go somewhere to meet Jeffery, so I arranged for him to come to my house. He would be unannounced, which I was certain the guards wouldn’t like. But ever since my parents arrived and were held up at the door, Damien gave me more allowances. I was allowed to invite people inside the house if I wished to.
He likely wanted me to talk to him about it first, but given the circumstances, I was willing to push my luck this once if it meant learning the truth about my past.
When Jeffery arrived, as expected, he was stopped at the door. When I heard some of the commotion, I went there and spoke with the guard.
“He has my permission to enter,” I said.
“But Luna -”
“I’m allowed to invite people inside,” I said. “Didn’t the Alpha permit this?”
“Yes, but -”
“Then please allow him inside.” It wasn’t in my nature to be pushy, especially with those who were only trying to help, but in this case, it was Damien’s rules I was pushing against more than this guard himself. I hoped he could understand that and wouldn’t think too unkindly of me.
The guard looked at me sternly, but then sighed a little. There was nothing he could do here. Damien had said I could invite people I knew inside. The guard had to open the door. So he did. The guard on the other side was trying to send Jeffery away, but when Jeffery say me, he spoke up.
“Luna. There you are. They are trying to send me away.”
“It’s okay. I know him, and I’ve been expecting him,” I said. “Please stand aside and allow him entrance.”
The guards looked at each other.
The one I had been previously speaking to said, “She has the right.”
The second guard seemed as conflicted as the first, but still, in the end, Jeffery was allowed inside.
I led Jeffery to the living room where we both sat down on the couch. I knew the guards were likely calling Damien at this moment, so we wouldn’t have much time. I could only hope that this session would be quick.
My nerves were starting to prickle so I laced my hands together in my lap.
“We’ve met before, you said,” I told him. “But I don’t remember.”
“Yes,” he replied. “At the time, you were suffering from a different form of memory loss. You went by the name’ Annette’ and did not seem to remember a time before you came to live with Alpha Jake and his parents.”

“So I did live there,” I said, with some wonder. I couldn’t believe that I had no memory of that.
“For six years,” Jeffery said. “I met you toward the end of it.”
“Six years?” I gasped. “Gods, I had no idea. But the children…?” Why would I leave them?
No, I had lost my memory, so I didn’t leave them. I forgot them. That seemed just as bad. How could I forget my own children?
“This must come as a shock to you, and I apologize,” Jeffery said. “May I ask how much you remember now?”
“The past six years are just… gone,” I said. “But I remember my time from before, up until I learned I was pregnant. Then it’s a blank until I woke up in the hospital and six years of my life had passed.”
Jeffery nodded critically. “So you have forgotten your time as Annette. And some before that. Okay. I think I know where to start to try to help you. I don’t know a lot about your time as Annette, but if the last thing you remember is discovering you are pregnant, we can go from there.”
“Okay,” I said, no less nervous, though it was good to have a plan. I felt like I could focus on that, rather than on
my nerves.
“We’ll start with some meditation,” he said. “If you are comfortable, please close your eyes.”
I looked at him, and then at the guards that were well within shouting distance. No doubt they could even hear what was going on in here. If Jeffery turned out to be a creep or something, they would immediately intervene. Of that I was certain. Though I also had a strange feeling like I could trust Jeffery and not worry about that.
So I closed my eyes.
“I’ll now lead you through some breathing exercises to help you relax,” he said, and then did so, talking me the exercise and counting for me while I focused fully on my breathing. When he finished, I was breathing deeply on my own, without the need for his out-loud count.
“Think back to when you discovered you were pregnant,” he said. “Remember the scratchy feel of the hospital sheets and the greenish fluorescent hospital lights. Who was there with you?”
“Doctor Wyatt,” I said. Behind my closed eyes, I could see her clearly. “She had been helping me take injections that were meant to strengthen my uterus, so that a human/werewolf pregnancy would be viable.”
“Good,” Jeffery said. “You were talking to Doctor Wyatt. You must have been surprised.”
“I was so happy,” I said. “I couldn’t wait to tell Damien.”
“Good. Did you tell him straight away?”
I thought about it, and as I did, some pieces started to fit together. “No. I went home. I wanted to surprise him and I needed to think about it first. But then… he had news for me…”
I remember going with Damien into a nursery. I remember him telling me…
