**Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah**
**Chapter 69**
**Damien’s POV**
In the labyrinth of my thoughts, one aspect of my grand plan to surprise Amelia with a gift had eluded me entirely: the rather awkward task of explaining my intentions to Dr. Wyatt. While I prided myself on my ability to maintain composure in most situations, the prospect of articulating why I needed her assistance in presenting a gift to my wife felt like a blow to my ego. I was a man who typically stood tall, unflinching in the face of embarrassment, yet today, a sense of vulnerability crept in.
The gift had been carefully wrapped, adorned with whimsical patterns of soft pink and gentle blue bubbles. Since we remained unaware of our baby’s sex, I thought it wise to embrace a neutral theme that celebrated both possibilities.
Arriving at Dr. Wyatt’s office in the hospital, I found her standing beside her desk, rifling through an open file cabinet. As I stepped inside, her gaze flickered from me to the gift cradled in my hands, and I noticed her brow arching in surprise.
The relationship between Dr. Wyatt and me had always been a delicate one. Although I was grateful for her role in helping Amelia conceive a child that bore the dual heritage of our world, I could not shake off the memories of the struggles Amelia had faced throughout this journey. The countless injections had been nothing short of torture for her, and while I rejoiced at the thought of her carrying our child, the scars of her suffering weighed heavily on my conscience.
I often chastised myself for allowing her to endure that pain for so long. Regret gnawed at me, a relentless reminder that some wounds run deeper than the skin. Yet, I understood that the past was immutable; what was done could not be undone.
Despite my lingering feelings of guilt, I had to acknowledge that Dr. Wyatt had become a pillar of support for Amelia. If I wanted to utilize that trust to facilitate my gift, I had to set aside my past grievances and approach the present with kindness.
“Alpha,” Dr. Wyatt greeted me, her tone formal and slightly stiff. “Is there something I can assist you with today?”
“Tomorrow marks Amelia’s next appointment, correct?” I already knew the answer, but I needed to hear it.
“Yes…?” she replied, her voice tinged with curiosity. “I assume you wish to join us again?”
“I do,” I affirmed, my resolve firm. “But I also require your assistance with something more.”
“Of course, Alpha,” she replied, her eyes darting to the package I held.
**Amelia’s POV**
As I sat in the examination room, Jake and Damien lingered just outside the door, their presence a comforting reminder of the support surrounding me. Dr. Wyatt and Eve conducted the appointment with professionalism, their demeanor calm and reassuring. After a thorough examination, Dr. Wyatt began to gather her belongings, signaling the conclusion of our session.
“Ah,” she exclaimed suddenly, her eyes lighting up as she rummaged through her bag. “I almost forgot something.”
My mind drifted, momentarily distracted by thoughts of Damien waiting just beyond the door. Memories flooded back of the last appointment—his excitement when he learned about the health and vitality of our little one. His reaction had painted a picture of a devoted father, someone who would cherish our child and nurture them with love.
As Dr. Wyatt continued her search, I couldn’t help but wonder what he was thinking at that moment. Would he be as thrilled to hear the latest news? Would he be able to put aside the tension that had brewed between us? I longed for the day when we could share in the joy of our growing family without the weight of unresolved feelings hanging over us.
“Here it is!” Dr. Wyatt declared, pulling out a small, neatly wrapped package from her bag. My heart skipped a beat, curiosity piquing as I wondered what surprise awaited me inside.
