**Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah**
**Chapter 71**
**Sienna’s POV**
The journey back to normalcy had been a grueling one, each day a battle against my own limitations. Yet, through sheer determination and relentless physical therapy, I found myself not only returning to the familiarity of home but also managing to navigate its rooms with the aid of a sturdy cane. My doctors, their faces lit with encouragement, often remarked on my remarkable progress, hinting that soon, I might be able to cast that cane aside altogether.
While their support was invaluable, I couldn’t help but feel that the credit for my recovery lay primarily with me. I was the one who had pushed through the pain, the one who had refused to let despair take root. Unlike others, like Amelia, who might have needed rescuing, I had forged my own path through this ordeal.
After a few days of settling back into my home, I was eager to return to my apprenticeship under Healer Eve at the hospital. The thought of all the work that surely piled up in my absence filled me with anticipation. Surely, there would be a mountain of tasks waiting for me to tackle!
However, when I arrived, Eve merely glanced around the room and said, “Well, Amelia has been handling most of the workload. But I’m sure we can find something for you to do.”
A flicker of disappointment coursed through me. “I can help with the patients…” I ventured, hoping to prove my worth.
“No,” she replied firmly. “Amelia is much better suited for that role. She has truly surprised us all with how well she’s adapted. In fact, she reminds me so much of your mother from our days as apprentices together.” As she spoke, her gaze seemed to drift into the past, lost in memories.
Her words struck me like a cold slap, a jolt of anger rising within. Not only was she suggesting that Amelia possessed more talent than I did, but she was also drawing comparisons to my mother—a woman I had always aspired to emulate! If anyone deserved to be likened to her, it was me, not Amelia!
Realizing perhaps the weight of her words, Eve quickly added, “I’m confident your talents will flourish too, Sienna. In time. Amelia just has a natural gift…”
It felt as if the world had turned upside down. Amelia, a skilled witch? How could that be? She had managed to charm not just my brother and parents but now even Eve, the esteemed healer! Surely, Eve, with her extensive knowledge and experience, should have been immune to such tricks and manipulations.
As I felt the familiar pout forming on my lips, Eve rushed to reassure me. “Don’t fret, Sienna. Your contributions are still valued here. Oh! I have a thought. Why not work alongside Amelia today? You could assist her. Spending time together might even help repair the rift between you two…”
