Dr. Tomlinson led the three of them toward the professors’ office, still working out in his mind exactly how to talk to Lydia. He wanted to take her down a notch, remind her not to let pride get the better of her, but he also knew he had to be careful with his words. She was the principal’s favorite student, after all. Some things just couldn’t be said too harshly.
Marilyn and Yara walked beside him, soaking up all the attention from the other students. Their backs were straight, eyes bright with pride, almost daring everyone to look at them. It was as if their whole vibe was saying, We got picked and we’re not shy about it. Only four spots in all of Capital Med School, and they had two of them. If that wasn’t destiny, what was?
Collin didn’t show off the way they did. He was quieter, but there was no hiding how good it felt to see classmates looking at him with envy and admiration.
The three of them followed Dr. Tomlinson, fully expecting to watch him give Lydia a good scolding. But even before they reached the door, they caught a glimpse through the glass. Inside, several professors were crowded around Lydia.
With Lydia’s cool, distant energy, it almost looked like she was untouchable at the center of the group.
Dr. Tomlinson froze. “What… what is happening?” For a second, he was completely thrown.
Yara leaned over, a little smirk playing on her lips. “Dr. Tomlinson, do you think the other professors found out Lydia didn’t join our training? Maybe they’re giving her a lecture.”
Marilyn nodded, convinced. “Exactly. The international medical competition is a huge deal, and she’s just blowing it off. If she holds us back, she’s embarrassing our whole country. The professors have to set her straight.”
Collin watched for a moment, then spoke in a low voice. “But… it looks like they are asking Lydia questions.”
It was obvious. The professors had their papers out, standing in a tight circle around Lydia. She was looking at one professor’s notes, talking things through while everyone else listened, completely focused. The whole scene looked like students gathered around a teacher, hungry for answers.
Except this time, Lydia was the one being asked.

thank u!...

Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
