Ready to Rule The Real Heiress Strikes Back (Lydia and Connor) novel Chapter 1267

Connor’s eyes flashed with annoyance, his voice cold. “What do you want?”

Lucinda hurried to answer. “I heard Lydia was back, so I came to check on her.”

Connor’s frown deepened, but before he could say more, Lydia’s voice came from inside the room. “Come in.”

Lucinda was honestly surprised. She’d figured Lydia wouldn’t want to see her at all. Still, Connor stepped aside, so Lucinda walked in.

She spotted Lydia sitting on a small sofa, facing right toward her. If Lucinda hadn’t already known Lydia was blind, she would never have guessed. Lydia looked perfectly composed.

“Lydia, your... your eyes. Is it true? You really can’t see?”

Lucinda leaned closer, trying to get a good look. When she realized Lydia didn’t seem to register she was even there, a wave of relief washed over her.

Lydia suddenly asked, “Are you happy about it?”

Lucinda froze, her smile faltering. She hesitated, then said softly, “How could you say that? It hurts me to see you like this.”

Lydia tilted her head, a faint smile on her lips. “I can hear you laughing inside, Lucinda.”

Lydia continued, “Don’t hold it in. Go ahead and laugh if you want. You don’t have to pretend when you’re with me.”

Every word hit its mark, and Lucinda couldn’t keep up the act any longer. “Lydia...”

Lucinda clenched her jaw, wanting to snap back, but Connor was still there. She had to keep up appearances. “I’ll go back to my room. Get some rest.”

With that, she turned and walked out, fuming. She’d come here ready to throw some insults Lydia’s way, but Lydia didn’t give her any opening at all. It was infuriating. How was she supposed to get the upper hand when Lydia was this unshakeable?

Juna smiled gently. “If you need help, just tell us.”

Krista felt a rush of gratitude. “Thank you. Both of you.”

The next morning, the Capital’s social scene was in chaos. Word had spread everywhere that Krista Bland, the woman everyone thought was on her deathbed, had stormed the Bland estate with a team of bodyguards and her lawyer.

What people didn’t know was that the so-called Bland estate used to be the Rock family’s mansion. Erik and his new woman, Gianna, had renovated the place, turning it into their own villa. Erik had been waiting for Krista to die, ready to claim all her wealth for himself.

No one expected Krista, supposedly at death’s door, to show up with proof of Erik’s affair and demand he leave with nothing. It was absolute bedlam.

Meanwhile, after Marilyn and Yara reported Lydia while abroad, they came back only to be expelled from Capital Med School. Erik was furious, yelling at her without holding back.

“What did I tell you at your grandmother’s birthday? I told you to get close to Lydia, make a friend out of her. And what did you do? You reported her? Are you completely stupid?”
