Ready to Rule The Real Heiress Strikes Back (Lydia and Connor) novel Chapter 1129

Byron opened the door to Grace’s apartment. The place still carried the mess left behind by the last police search.

He turned on the lights. The soft yellow glow pushed back the shadows, but it couldn’t make the room feel any less empty or cold.

The apartment Grace had chosen just didn’t get much light.

They split up. Lydia headed for the bedroom, while Byron took the living room. He checked every drawer in the coffee table, going through every corner with care.

Inside, he found a mess of receipts and makeup samples, but there was no sign of a phone.

He checked the TV stand next, but that turned up nothing, too.

Byron walked into the bedroom, his brows drawn together. “There’s no sign of the phone, Lydia. Not even a hint.”

Lydia looked up from where she was searching. She had already turned over the wardrobe, checked the bedside tables, and even crawled under the bed. Still nothing.

“Do you think Frank lied to us?” Byron asked. You could hear the doubt in his voice. Frank was hardly trustworthy, with a rap sheet as long as your arm.

Lydia shook her head. “He’s locked up right now. He wouldn’t risk lying to me. The phone has to be here. Or maybe close by.”

She got up and drifted toward the window without really thinking about it. A soft breeze slipped in through the half-open pane and brushed her hair back from her face.

Her eyes scanned the view outside. Suddenly, she stopped, staring at the rooftop below.

There, in one corner, something glinted in the sunlight. It looked like a pile of shiny fragments, scattered across the rooftop.

“Byron, come here!” Lydia’s voice was bright with excitement as she pointed toward the rooftop.

Byron rushed over, following her gaze. “That looks like a phone.”

This phone was definitely tied to Night Eagle.

Ever since he’d escaped from Triangle, Night Eagle had completely vanished. Everyone had been looking for him, but no one had found even a trace.

Fixing a phone this broken would take serious equipment and real experts. Lydia was the best when it came to recovering data, but some jobs needed a specialist.

Byron carefully collected all the pieces and gave Lydia a reassuring look. “Don’t worry. Our techs are top-notch. I’ll call you the second it’s fixed.”

Lydia still looked uneasy. “When you give it to them, don’t tell them too much. This phone is important.”

It could lead them to the truth about the clones. It might even show where Night Eagle was hiding. Maybe, it could reveal even more.

Byron nodded, his expression serious. “I get it.”
