Ready to Rule The Real Heiress Strikes Back (Lydia and Connor) novel Chapter 1230

Mr. Powell gave a nod. “Alright. I’ll talk to her after the party’s over.”

Mrs. Powell hummed her agreement, then added, “I’ve noticed she’s been spending a lot of time with Carter lately. If she really can get close to the Shaw family, that’d be good for us.”

Mr. Powell glanced over at Carter, who was sticking close to Nina. He nodded again. “He’s a solid choice.”

This arrangement would take care of two things at once. Nina would be married off, and they’d get the benefits they wanted. It was the perfect scenario.

Mrs. Powell’s expression shifted in an instant. She put on a bright smile. “Let me go ask her about it.” Then she headed straight for Nina and Carter.

Nina and Carter had just seen Lydia and Juna off when they noticed Mrs. Powell coming toward them, smiling wide.

Ever since Nina found out her parents had been replaced, she felt tense every time she saw Mrs. Powell. The pressure was almost too much. She was always afraid that one wrong move or careless word would give her away and ruin their entire plan.

“Mom,” Nina called out softly.

Carter followed her lead, greeting politely, “Ma’am.”

Mrs. Powell beamed at Carter. “Mr. Shaw, you and Nina seem pretty close these days, don’t you?”

Nina had always liked Carter, and spending time with him lately only made her feelings stronger.

Carter hadn’t expected Mrs. Powell to be so upfront. Color crept up his cheeks. “I… um… we’re just…” He trailed off, not sure how to explain anything to Mrs. Powell.

Nina’s face flushed, too. “Mom, why are you bringing this up all of a sudden? We’re just friends.”

She did like Carter, but she wasn’t about to force him into anything. If all this ended and Carter said he didn’t feel the same, she would keep her distance from then on.

“Dad, Mom, I made some soup for you. It’ll help you feel better,” Nina said as she brought the bowls over.

They didn’t think twice about it. They had things to discuss with her soon anyway, so they weren’t about to turn her down. They both finished the soup in just a few gulps.

Mr. Powell looked at Nina, his tone suddenly gentle. “Nina, you’re really growing up. You even know how to take care of your parents now. But you shouldn’t let your studies fall behind. Now that your birthday’s over, when are you heading back to Country E?”

Nina was caught off guard by how eager they were. She smiled a little. “Tomorrow, maybe? I’ve been back for quite a while now.”

They hadn’t expected her to agree so easily, and both looked thrilled.

Mr. Powell grinned. “Good. Finish your degree and come home as soon as you can. Then you can stay for good.”

Mrs. Powell added, “That’s right, Nina. When you get back, your dad and I will talk things over with that boy from the Shaw family. I can tell you have feelings for him.”
