She stared at her phone, eyes wide in shock. It felt like she had just been struck by lightning.

Connor deleted her?

No way. That couldn’t be real.

She stared at the screen, convinced she must have been seeing things. She sent another message, just to be sure.

Nothing. The result was exactly the same.

Why? Why would he do this?

It had to be Lydia. Lydia was with Connor now. She probably saw her call, told Connor not to answer, and made him delete her. That had to be it. Otherwise, why would Connor keep her on his friends list for over half a year and suddenly remove her now, right after spending time with Lydia?

Jealousy burned through her, hot and wild, until she could barely think straight.

“Lucinda, what’s wrong? Are you feeling sick?” Kylie’s voice cut through her messy thoughts.

Lucinda blinked, trying to pull herself together, and managed a shaky smile.

“Mom, I think I’m about to get my period. My stomach kind of hurts.”

“Oh, sweetheart, you should drink some ginger tea. Lucinda, why don’t you just go home for now? Your grandfather’s stable. Your dad and I will stay here and keep an eye on things.”

Lucinda wanted nothing more than to leave. She still put on a show, pretending to protest.

“But, Mom, how could I do that? You and Dad are both tired too.”

“It’s alright. We have plenty of nurses here. If you’re not feeling well, just go home and rest.”

“Alright, Mom. Thank you. Sorry to trouble you and Dad.”

Lydia raised her eyebrows. So the Parkers couldn’t handle it and went running to her mom for help already?

Connor, sitting beside her, narrowed his eyes. What was going on? Did something happen at work today?

“That’s right,” Lydia said.

“I see. Lydia, I know Henry is your Rose’s son, and honestly, he hasn’t done much at the company, so firing him makes sense. But Rose has been crying and begging me to ask you if you could please let her son out of the police station. What do you think?”

Rose and Parker had already tried everything, but the officers at the station wouldn’t budge. By law, Henry had to be held for five days. Rose and Parker were at their wits’ end. Henry had never suffered like this before. Forget five days, he couldn’t even last one.

They were desperate. Rose ended up hiding the real reason and called Kylie, sobbing and begging for help.

Kylie had always been soft-hearted and loyal to her friends. She couldn’t help but call Lydia.

“Did she mention why her son ended up at the police station?” Lydia asked, her voice calm.
