Ready to Rule The Real Heiress Strikes Back (Lydia and Connor) novel Chapter 1272

Krista nodded. “Yeah, I checked. He’s out cold. Nothing could wake him.”

Carter nodded too. “Alright, let’s move fast. The longer we wait, the more likely something goes wrong.”

The three of them crept quietly toward Erik’s room. Erik was sprawled out on the bed, completely dead to the world. Krista eased the door open while Juna and Carter slipped inside and made their way to the bedside.

Carter was just about to give Erik the injection when suddenly, the door burst open and Victoria stormed in.

“What are you doing?” she shouted.

Juna and Carter jumped, the syringe nearly slipping from Carter’s hand. Krista’s heart sank. Of all times for Victoria to show up, it had to be now.

Thinking fast, Juna grabbed the medicine Lydia had given her and held it under Erik’s nose, making sure he breathed in the fumes.

“Oh my God! This is insane! Krista, you evil bitch! You brought people here to hurt Erik!” Victoria’s voice shook with panic and fury.

“Just stop!” Krista snapped, rushing over to cover Victoria’s mouth.

But Victoria thought Krista was trying to silence her for good, and she started screaming even louder.

“Help! Somebody help! Murder! Help me!”

Thankfully, Krista had sent almost all the staff away for the day, leaving only a couple of loyal people behind. If not, Victoria’s screams would have had everyone running over.

Desperate, Krista grabbed Victoria and hissed, “He isn’t Erik. He’s a clone.”

Victoria had no idea what Krista was talking about. She didn’t believe a word, and she fought her way toward the bed, trying to grab the syringe from Carter.

Carter nodded and, steadying his hands, injected the drug into Erik.

Juna turned to Krista. “Take her back to her room. Tomorrow, get Erik out of the house early. Don’t let him and Victoria see each other. We need to talk to your mother-in-law and make sure she understands.”

Krista nodded, her face serious. “Okay. I’m sorry, I should have been more careful.”

“It’s alreay pretty good,” Juna told her quietly.

The three of them carried Victoria back to her room. Afterward, Juna slipped away to find Lydia and told her everything that happened.

Lydia listened, then thought it over for a moment. “I’ll go in myself. We can’t let Victoria mess up our plans now.”
