Work had always been Lydia’s everything. She threw herself into it, morning to night, until there was nothing left to give. Sure, she liked good food as much as anyone, but she could eat plain pickles every day and not even complain.
Connor reached over, took a tissue, and gently wiped the corner of her mouth. “Once we wrap things up here, let’s go straight to Mount Gemspire,” he said softly.
He always saw Lydia as an eagle, meant to soar higher than anyone else. But now, with her eyesight gone, it was like her wings had been broken. She acted calm, even more collected than the rest of them, but Connor knew the truth. Deep down, this was devastating for her. Watching her pretend like nothing was wrong made his heart ache.
Lydia just nodded. “Okay.” She didn’t really expect much from this trip to Mount Gemspire. The last time she’d been there, she hadn’t found even another Vision Rejuvenation Grass. Maybe this was just her way of finally letting go.
Meanwhile, at the Reynolds’ place, the dinner table was set and the family gathered around. Peyton glanced at her parents and tried to sound casual. “Hey, Dad, Mom, is my sister super busy right now? She hasn’t been home at all this month.”
Just mentioning their oldest daughter made Adrian and Ivonne light up with pride.
Ivonne smiled. “Your sister’s got a mountain of work every day. Of course she’s busy.”
Adrian nodded. “You’re still young. Once you graduate and start working, you’ll be just like her. Every day, spinning around, barely stopping for breath.”
Peyton grinned. “Well, your thirtieth wedding anniversary is coming up. Do you think she’ll make it home for that?”
Ivonne hesitated for a second. “I’m not sure. She’s so busy lately. If she can’t make it, that’s fine. It can just be the three of us, and we’ll invite your grandparents over for a nice dinner. That’s enough for me.”

Olha a história bem boa só algumas coisas são chatas ( nesse tipo de história sempre troca as filhas pela a da empregada ou então pegam uma menina pra criar) pelo menos eles tratam a filha bem só enche o saco que até agora a Lucinda tá lá enchendo ! Fora isso tá bom Connor é um fofo a família dela a ama muito só Lucinda pra abaixar o nível do livro já era pra ter resolvido isso e fazer ela pagar mais tudo bem li um livro chinês que era parecido só algumas coisas diferentes ,ais mesma coisa tipo ela salvou o Connor no início lá ela salvava o avô dele , no chinês ela não tinha um irmão mais novo com os pais adotivos , a mãe dela tinha 2 irmãos e todos os avós estavam vivos mais história quase igual e tem coisas tipo o triângulo que lá TB tinha até a Lucinda que no chines TB ficou o livro todo aprontando só no final a família descobria e se livrava dela aí ela ia morar com o cara que ela usa pra disfarçar que não gosta do Connor aí depois ainda quase matava a irmã dele e a mãe dele que ele via como ela era...
