Ready to Rule The Real Heiress Strikes Back (Lydia and Connor) novel Chapter 1291

Lydia’s fingers went still.

In the darkness, she could hear her own heartbeat racing, wild and loud, like fireworks bursting right in front of her eyes.

“What did you just say?” She clung to Connor’s wrist. “Are you sure it’s really Vision Rejuvenation Grass? There’s no mistake?”

“Damien checked over and over.” Connor finally let go, his warm fingertips brushing gently against the cool edge of her eye, as if he was afraid any sudden movement might break the fragile moment.

“The sprout is tiny, barely bigger than a fingernail, but the veins on the leaves match the old records exactly.”

Lydia’s eyes stung with emotion she couldn’t hold back.

She grabbed Connor’s hand, pressing her cheek to his palm, soaking in his warmth.

“It has to be the original plant. Its roots must have stayed deep underground. It waited there, hidden in the dirt for so long, just for the right time to come back to life...”

Connor squeezed her hand, lifting it to his lips for a soft kiss. “Maybe the plant has a spirit. Maybe it knew someone was waiting, so it fought with everything it had to come back.”

Lydia rested her head on his chest.

She could hear his heart pounding, each beat heavy and real.

Suddenly she said, “Connor, let’s get married.”

Connor’s eyes widened. For a second, he wondered if he was just so tired that he was imagining things.

He only believed it was real when Lydia’s warm breath brushed his neck and he had to dig his nails into his palm to keep himself grounded.

The sharp pain was real, but he still couldn’t quite trust his ears.

“Lydia… what did you say?” His voice was shaky, uncertain, like he was afraid this would vanish if he touched it.

Lydia lifted her face, her voice steady and clear. “When the clone incident is over, let’s get married.”

Shock ran through him.

Besides, Connor was the man she’d chosen. As for children, boy or girl, she only ever wanted one.

Connor felt his throat close up, his eyes burning.

“You don’t want to?” Lydia asked, raising an eyebrow when he didn’t answer right away.

“How could I not?” Connor pulled her into his arms, holding her so close it felt like he wanted her to become a part of him.

“I’ve dreamed of this day...” His voice broke as he pressed kisses into her hair, over and over.

“I just never thought... I never thought it would happen like this...”

Lydia buried her face against his chest, her lips curving in a smile. “Then it’s a promise. Once the Capital’s threat is gone for good, we’ll get married.”

Connor shivered, a wave of tears flooding his eyes.
