Connor glanced at her, his voice cool and steady. “With Lydia’s talent, college or no college doesn’t really matter. Even after we’re married, whatever she wants to do, I’ll back her up.”
Lydia wasn’t like most girls, and he knew it. Once she got her sight back, she’d probably be even busier than him. No matter what path she chose, he was determined to stand by her.
Lucinda sat frozen, her hands clenched so tightly her knuckles turned white. She couldn’t help thinking, Lydia’s blind. She doesn’t deserve any of this! The thought burned inside her, so loud she almost blurted it out.
Kylie and Cameron still looked lost. The news about marriage had come so suddenly, neither of them knew how to react. If Connor had said they were just getting a big engagement party, maybe they could’ve handled it. But marriage, right out of the gate, was a lot to take in.
“Lydia, what do you think?” Kylie finally asked, turning to her daughter. Their opinions didn’t matter as much as Lydia’s did.
Lydia smiled, just a hint, and turned her head toward Kylie’s voice. Even though she couldn’t see, she never missed a beat. “We’re not getting married right away. We just wanted you to know what we’re thinking. It could be six months from now, maybe a year. We wanted to give you a heads up, and honestly, give ourselves some time to get ready too.”
The truth was, she and Connor couldn’t get married until the whole clone situation was resolved. They’d talked about it, and planned to clear up every threat within a year, tops.
Kylie and Cameron exchanged a glance, the tension in their shoulders finally easing a little. Kylie let out a breath and patted her chest. “Oh. That’s a relief, honestly.”
Still, she couldn’t help feeling sad. Six months or a year—either way, it felt too soon. Just thinking about Lydia getting married made her heart ache with a mix of pride and worry.

Olha a história bem boa só algumas coisas são chatas ( nesse tipo de história sempre troca as filhas pela a da empregada ou então pegam uma menina pra criar) pelo menos eles tratam a filha bem só enche o saco que até agora a Lucinda tá lá enchendo ! Fora isso tá bom Connor é um fofo a família dela a ama muito só Lucinda pra abaixar o nível do livro já era pra ter resolvido isso e fazer ela pagar mais tudo bem li um livro chinês que era parecido só algumas coisas diferentes ,ais mesma coisa tipo ela salvou o Connor no início lá ela salvava o avô dele , no chinês ela não tinha um irmão mais novo com os pais adotivos , a mãe dela tinha 2 irmãos e todos os avós estavam vivos mais história quase igual e tem coisas tipo o triângulo que lá TB tinha até a Lucinda que no chines TB ficou o livro todo aprontando só no final a família descobria e se livrava dela aí ela ia morar com o cara que ela usa pra disfarçar que não gosta do Connor aí depois ainda quase matava a irmã dele e a mãe dele que ele via como ela era...
