Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 1303

Juna kept insisting, so Lucinda finally gave in and took a careful sip. She couldn’t taste anything off, but Juna was quick to hand her the glass again.

“You have to drink when you’re having fondue. From now on, we’re good friends,” Juna declared, raising her glass. She rambled on, leaving Lucinda totally confused. Good friends? Was Juna serious? Lucinda didn’t buy it for a second.

Still, the drinks kept coming. Before long, Lucinda’s head felt light and fuzzy.

“I can’t... I really can’t drink anymore,” she muttered, shaking her head. She kept a tight grip on her bag. There was something important inside, and she was terrified she’d let her guard down if she got any drunker.

Juna didn’t push it. She’d already gotten what she wanted out of the night.

Lucinda was dizzy, but she clung to her bag like her life depended on it. Anyone could see she was protecting something valuable. Juna just smiled to herself. Lucinda was really easy to handle.

Back at the Norwood house, everyone drifted off to their own rooms. Juna helped Lydia inside and whispered, “Lucinda’s totally out. I even slipped a little something in her wine so she’ll sleep extra well tonight. I’m pretty sure her phone is in her bag. She wouldn’t let go of it during dinner.”

Lydia nodded. “Good job.”

She was convinced that phone held all kinds of secrets. Maybe even the answers they’d been looking for.

Juna frowned. “But what about the password? I’m not great at this stuff. Should we call someone in?”

Lydia thought for a moment. “It’s okay. One phone call will do.”

The house was silent and dark when Juna crept down the hallway and stopped in front of Lucinda’s door. To her surprise, it was locked from the inside. She turned around and tiptoed back to Lydia’s room for help.
