Right now Grace’s mind was all on Lucinda. She lowered her voice, trying to sound gentle. “Lucinda, I’m back. I’ll fix Lydia for you, I promise.”
Lucinda’s voice came alive on the other end. “Really, Grace?”
Grace nodded, even though Lucinda couldn’t see her. “Yeah. She’s blind now. As soon as she steps outside the Norwood place, I’ll make sure she ends up right where we want her.”
Lucinda sounded relieved. “Thank you, Grace. Seriously, thank you.”
A cold smile tugged at Grace’s lips. “Just wait till I catch her. I’ll call you, and you can see for yourself how pathetic she looks.”
“Perfect.”
Night settled over the city, thick and endless. Lydia walked slowly down the sidewalk, sunglasses hiding her eyes. Juna stayed close, holding onto her arm. The wind whipped around them, rattling the street trees and making the shadows feel even deeper.
“Lydia, are you sure about this? It’s dangerous,” Juna whispered, worry plain in her voice.
Lydia tilted her head, giving her a small, confident smile. “Relax. This is all part of the plan. Grace won’t kill me, not yet. We’re going to use that. It’s the only way to find out what they’re really after, and where Night Eagle is.”
Grace’s people were already watching the Norwood estate, waiting for the right moment. Lydia had no choice but to play along.
“Lydia, never thought you’d end up like this, did you?” Grace sauntered over, looking down at her. “You always acted so untouchable. Look at you now. You’re nothing!”
Lydia lifted her head slowly. She couldn’t see, but her voice was steady. “Grace, do you really think this changes anything? You’re just desperate.”
Grace let out a harsh laugh, her voice echoing around the empty building. “Desperate? No, Lydia. Today you’re going to learn what happens when you cross me. Boys, show her what I mean.”
A few of the men stepped forward, cracking leather whips in their hands. The sound sliced through the air.
Then Grace paused, an idea popping into her mind. “Wait. Let’s hold off until Lucinda gets here. She should be the one to do this. She hates Lydia more than anyone. Let her enjoy it.”

Olha a história bem boa só algumas coisas são chatas ( nesse tipo de história sempre troca as filhas pela a da empregada ou então pegam uma menina pra criar) pelo menos eles tratam a filha bem só enche o saco que até agora a Lucinda tá lá enchendo ! Fora isso tá bom Connor é um fofo a família dela a ama muito só Lucinda pra abaixar o nível do livro já era pra ter resolvido isso e fazer ela pagar mais tudo bem li um livro chinês que era parecido só algumas coisas diferentes ,ais mesma coisa tipo ela salvou o Connor no início lá ela salvava o avô dele , no chinês ela não tinha um irmão mais novo com os pais adotivos , a mãe dela tinha 2 irmãos e todos os avós estavam vivos mais história quase igual e tem coisas tipo o triângulo que lá TB tinha até a Lucinda que no chines TB ficou o livro todo aprontando só no final a família descobria e se livrava dela aí ela ia morar com o cara que ela usa pra disfarçar que não gosta do Connor aí depois ainda quase matava a irmã dele e a mãe dele que ele via como ela era...
