Lydia lifted an eyebrow. “You really have this much free time?”
Connor grinned. “If I’m with you, I’ve got all the time in the world.”
At the same time, Parker and Rose were racing toward the airport, a small fortune stuffed in their bags. Parker was still in shock. He had hired over twenty guys and not a single one had managed to lay a finger on Lydia. Instead, they all got taken out. It was unreal.
There was no way they could stay in the country now. They had to get out, disappear for a while. As for their son, Henry, there was nothing they could do for him at the moment.
Henry would be out in five days anyway, and the kidnapping wasn’t his fault. He’d be fine.
Rose kept glancing nervously in the rearview mirror, convinced someone was following them.
“Honey, are we really just leaving like this?” Her voice trembled. She couldn’t help it. They had spent years fighting for a place in the Capital, finally making a name for themselves, and now, because of one girl, everything was falling apart. They were about to lose it all and start over somewhere else. She hated it.
Parker’s jaw was clenched as he sped down the highway. “If we don’t leave, we’ll end up in jail. You think this is what I want?”
Everything was going smoothly until Lydia came along and ruined his plans.
“What if I talk to Kylie and admit our mistake? Maybe she’ll forgive us, let this go.” Rose’s voice broke. She wasn’t ready to run, and she really couldn’t stand the idea of leaving their son behind.
“You still don’t get it, do you? Lydia is the spy Kylie and Cameron sent to the company. They must have figured out what we were doing. Why else would they keep sending people from headquarters?”
They had stolen money, messed with the accounts, swapped out materials, done whatever they could to line their pockets. Every single thing they did was illegal.
He’d wanted to get just a little more before disappearing for good, but now that was off the table.
If they didn’t run tonight, there wouldn’t be another chance.
Rose started to sob, her whole body shaking. “But I’m worried about Henry.”
Lydia, meanwhile, didn’t take Connor to the police station. Instead, she drove straight to Greenward Power.
Connor checked the time. It was already eleven. She was really going to work this late?
“I’ll be down in a bit. You can wait in the car,” Lydia said.
Connor didn’t even hesitate. He got out and closed the door behind him. “I’m coming with you.”
He finally had some real time with her. He wasn’t about to give that up.
Lydia just raised her brow at him and led the way through the company’s back entrance.
The second floor was where the production department and the warehouse were. The whole building was quiet. Except for the faint light in the stairwell, everything else was dark.

Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
