Cameron beamed with pride. “That’s my girl. Lydia, you’ve got such a knack for business. I’m handing Greenward Power over to you. I know you’ll make it thrive.”
Lydia nodded, her voice steady. “Thanks for trusting me, Dad. I’ll give it my all.”
Around ten minutes later, Connor showed up at the police station, personally escorting Peter and his group in. Byron watched the scene and couldn’t help but think, being personally hauled in by a former general was probably the highlight of these guys’ pathetic lives.
Peter looked absolutely miserable. The moment he spotted Cameron and Kylie, he started wailing. “I swear I’m innocent. It was all Mr. Ragain’s idea. Please, I’m begging you, have some mercy.”
He really thought he’d covered his tracks, but he still ended up getting caught. Who exactly was Lydia, anyway? She’d only just arrived at the company and already turned everything upside down, and somehow Mr. and Mrs. Norwood were just letting her do whatever she wanted. They seriously underestimated her and way overestimated themselves.
Cameron let out a cold snort and turned away, slipping an arm around Kylie’s shoulders. These people weren’t worth getting upset over. Their health mattered more than wasting energy on greedy, selfish fools. Let the law deal with them.
“Mr. Norwood, Mrs. Norwood.” Connor approached, totally calm, and greeted them politely.
Both Cameron and Kylie felt a little guilty. They thought he’s asking Lydia out when he was actually helping them dealing with this mess.
“Connor, thank you. It’s late and you’re still helping us handle all this company drama.”
“No problem at all. I’m just glad I can help Lydia.”
Lydia turned to her parents. “Dad, Mom, you should head home and rest. I’ll wrap things up here and come back soon.”
Lydia knew she could’ve handled it herself, but having Connor step in made her feel oddly safe, like she wasn’t alone in all this.
“Thank you,” she said quietly.
Connor smiled, reaching out to gently ruffle her hair. “No need to thank me. I told you, whatever you need, I’m here.”
Lydia smiled back, not even bothering to argue. “Okay.”
The Ragain family had racked up enough crimes to keep them behind bars for a lifetime. Parker and Rose actually thought their son would be in the clear because he hadn’t gotten involved with the company’s shady deals. Turns out, their son was even worse. He’d been threatening girls to sleep with him, and if a girl had a boyfriend and turned him down, he’d go after the boyfriend, even leaving one guy permanently bedridden.
