Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 233

Lucinda wasn’t angry at all when she heard what Grace said. Instead, she felt incredibly touched. She never expected that Grace would risk her own safety just to help her by drugging Lydia. For a moment, she realized that Grace was even more loyal than Cameron or Kylie had ever been. No matter what, Grace was really on her side and always thinking of her first.

“Grace, you…”

“I’m sorry, Lucinda. It’s my fault for messing up and having Lydia find out. But don’t worry, this has nothing to do with you. I’ve already destroyed all the evidence, so just pretend you don’t know anything. Even if Lydia goes to your parents, I won’t let you get dragged into this.”

Lucinda felt even more moved. “Grace, you did all this for me. Even if my mom and dad find out, I’ll make sure they don’t blame you. And I’ll call a specialist for you right now.”

Seeing how much Lucinda cared, Grace’s eyes filled with tears. “Lucinda, you’re so kind and pure. One day, Connor is going to see just how amazing you are.”

Lucinda smiled softly. She’d been waiting for that day for a long time.

When Lydia got to the office, she had just parked her car when her phone started ringing. Glancing down, she saw Grandpa Samuel’s name pop up on a video call. A gentle warmth filled her eyes as she answered.

Mr. Jefferson’s cheerful face, shiny bald head and all, filled the screen. He looked a little surprised that she answered so fast, and he quickly adjusted the camera so she could see more than just his face. Smiling, he asked, “Lydia, did you have breakfast?”

“I did, Grandpa Samuel. I just got to the office.”

Looking at the background, Mr. Jefferson could tell she was still in her car. His face was instantly full of concern. “Lydia, Connor told me you were in surgery until one in the morning. Why did you get up so early today? You should have slept in a little.”

“Lydia, are you not accepting it because you think it’s too little? If it’s not enough, I’ll send you a bigger one, how about that?”

He was trying so hard to sound young and playful, adding a little emoji to his words. It really did make him seem even more lovable.

Lydia could tell he was doing it on purpose and couldn’t help but laugh. “It’s really not because it’s too little, Grandpa Samuel. I have plenty of money, I promise.”

“I don’t care. What you have is yours. If you don’t take my gift, that means you think it’s not enough. I’ll send you an even bigger one right now.”
