Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 273

“Lucinda, Lucinda! Garrett is back, and so are Mr. and Mrs. Norwood. Connor came too!”

Lucinda was pacing the living room, nerves jangling, when Grace burst in breathless, her face lit up with excitement.

Lucinda jumped off the sofa. “Really? Connor’s here too?”

“Yeah! I just saw Garrett outside, and he had the staff unloading a mountain of gifts from the car. I bet there’s something amazing in there for you.”

Grace rattled off the names of everyone she’d seen, but she didn’t mention Lydia at all.

The second Lucinda heard this, she rushed outside. She got there just in time to see Garrett and Connor walking on either side of Lydia, protecting her like she was royalty. Cameron and Kylie trailed behind, laughing and chatting, everyone looking so relaxed and happy together.

Lucinda froze in the doorway, her smile suddenly stiff.

Cameron and Kylie spotted her first and called out with a grin. “Lucinda, look, Garrett is back.”

Garrett noticed her as she appeared. “Lucinda, did you miss me?”

Lucinda snapped out of her daze, putting on her brightest, sweetest smile. “Of course I missed you.” She glanced over at Connor, a little shy. “Connor, you’re here too.”

Connor couldn’t just ignore her in front of everyone. He nodded and gave a quiet “Yeah,” then went silent.

Lucinda amped up her charm, her voice soft and inviting. “Dinner’s ready. We’ve been waiting for you. Dad, Mom, Connor, Garrett , come inside.”

For a second, everyone just stopped and looked at her.

All the gifts to Lydia’s room? What was that supposed to mean? Wasn’t there anything for her?

She couldn’t just ask with everyone watching. So she squeezed Garrett’s arm, pouting a little. “Garrett, you brought so many presents for Lydia. Didn’t you get anything for me?”

Garrett looked a bit uncomfortable but tried to laugh it off. “Lucinda, I only came back on short notice this time. I wanted to see Lydia and Grandpa. Lydia’s just come home, and she’s been through so much. I thought I’d try to make up for everything she missed out on. You’re not seriously jealous, are you?”

Lucinda almost lost her smile. So, none of those gifts were for her? Was Garrett really playing favorites?

But with everyone there, especially Connor, she couldn’t afford to look upset. She forced a smile. “Of course not, Garrett. Lydia went through so much in the countryside for eighteen years, it’s only right for her to get a few extra gifts now.”

Garrett grinned at her. “See? Lucinda really gets it. So, what did you get for her?”
