Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 286

Lydia didn’t bother hiding it anymore. She smiled just a little. “Yeah.”

Juna groaned. “Seriously, Lydia? If you already knew who it was, why didn’t you just say so? I spent forever negotiating with them.”

“There was a reason.”

“Fine, whatever. As long as you’ve got it under control.”

Lydia asked, “Hey, does your Davis family have anything to do with Anthony Davis?”

Juna caught herself. “Wait, my uncle? You know my uncle?”

“We met today. Why have you never mentioned him before?”

“Oh, my uncle’s barely ever home. He only got transferred back last year, and his job’s kind of special. He keeps a really low profile, so we just don’t talk about him much. Oh, speaking of, I just found out today that my cousin had some drama at the airport on her first day back. She’s still in the hospital. You weren’t there or anything, right?”

Lydia got it now. “Is your cousin named Violette?”

Juna gasped. “Yes! Wait, Lyds, don’t tell me you were the one who saved her?” Juna had just heard from her parents that Violette had been taken hostage at the airport, badly hurt, and only survived because two top doctors stepped in.

“I wasn’t the only one there.”

“Oh wow, what are the odds? My parents were just saying they’re going to visit her in the hospital tomorrow.”

“That’s all, I was just curious.”

“Alright, you’ve had a long day. Get some rest.”

“You too.”

A young man’s voice came through, smooth and low. “Lydia, the Serpent Syndicate is sending people to our country. They must have tracked you when you hacked into the capital’s police system today.”

The Serpent Syndicate was the biggest drug trafficking group in the world. Three years ago, they shared a base with Southeast Asia’s largest scam operation, practically working together. After the scam group was busted, the syndicate lost a lot of people, but their own headquarters were still hidden. Lydia had been searching for it for years, with no luck. Ever since she exposed the scam operation, the syndicate had been after her. And they weren’t the only ones.

“Spread the word that I’ve gone to France. Lead them away from here.”

There were too many people she cared about at home. She couldn’t risk her real identity getting out.

“Yes, Lydia.”

Lydia stayed at her desk, working straight through until three in the morning before she finally called it a night.

Meanwhile, people who had witnessed the airport incident were noticing something weird. When they checked the videos they’d posted, a lot of faces had been blurred out. The strange thing was, they were certain they hadn’t added any blurs at all.
