Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 300

Garrett was just like the others. His loyalties had shifted to Lydia, and no one seemed to care about how Lucinda felt anymore.

Only Grace was always there for her, no questions asked, always on her side.

“Don’t let it get to you, Lucinda. No matter what happens, I’m here for you. You’re not alone,” Grace promised.

That warmed Lucinda’s heart even more. “Thanks, Grace. You take care of yourself, too.”

“I will. Once I get back from Lakeview Town and my face is better, I’ll come see you,” Grace said.

“Okay.”

After they hung up, Lucinda sat for a moment, twisting her fingers together, taking a deep breath to steady herself. Then she changed her clothes and headed downstairs.

Honestly, if she could have avoided it, she never would’ve agreed to go to the hospital with Lydia.

Outside, at the front gate, Cameron and Kylie were in the middle of a press interview.

“Sorry, everyone, there’s been a mistake. Our youngest daughter, Lucinda, isn’t this year’s top scorer,” Cameron announced.

The reporters looked completely blindsided. The air buzzed with confusion.

“Not Lucinda Norwood? But our source said her homeroom teacher confirmed it—Lucinda scored 735 and was the top of the class.”

“Yeah, and what about all those fancy school buses that just left? Weren’t they here to try and recruit her?”

“If 735 isn’t the highest score, then what is?” someone else called out.

Cameron gestured for quiet and explained, “It’s true, Lucinda’s teacher did contact you, but we’ve spoken with her, and there’s been a misunderstanding.”

“I’m sorry, that’s not possible right now,” Cameron replied, his tone final.

They tried a different approach. “Can you at least tell us what your relationship is with the top scorer? Why is she staying here?”

Cameron wanted more than anything to announce that the top scorer was his daughter. Where else would she be? But he held back.

“I’m afraid I can’t share that right now, but you’ll all know soon enough how the top scorer is connected to the Norwood family.”

Seeing they weren’t going to get anything else, the reporters finally backed off. Still, they had a big scoop: this year’s perfect scorer picked Capital Med School, definitely a headline that would get attention. They hurried away to get their stories out.

After a noisy, stressful morning, the house finally felt peaceful again.

Garrett couldn’t help but admire his little sister. She’d gotten a perfect score and was still so calm about it, nothing like how you’d expect an eighteen-year-old to act. She was modest, steady, and handled everything with a quiet confidence.
