Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 308

Ever since that day at the hospital, Dr. Hady had been dying to ask Lydia out for a meal. She always looked so busy, though, and he never found the right moment. Today felt different. For once, Lydia showed up at the hospital without rushing from one thing to another, and he finally worked up the nerve to ask.

He just wasn’t sure if she’d have the time.

Lydia hesitated, then gave him an apologetic smile. “I’ve still got some things to take care of later. Maybe we can do it another day?”

Dr. Hady didn’t look the least bit awkward about being turned down. He knew better than anyone how packed Lydia’s schedule was.

“Of course. You go ahead and do your thing.”

“Alright.”

“I’ll head back to my office, then.”

“Okay.”

Their little exchange didn’t last long, but it was more than enough to set off a storm of jealousy on the other end of the call.

Someone was actually trying to move in on his fiancée? And from the sound of that guy’s voice, he couldn’t be much older than Connor himself.

Suddenly, Connor was desperate to know who this bold young doctor was, the one who thought he could just casually ask Lydia out.

Lydia, on the other hand, wasn’t thinking about any of that. She glanced at her phone. Only one percent battery left. She turned to Connor, her voice casual. “I’ll talk to you later, my phone’s about to die.”

Connor was still caught up in his thoughts, ready to ask her who had invited her out. But before he could get the words out, Lydia had already mentioned her battery, leaving him with a thousand questions stuck in his throat.

“Alright.”

“Yeah, I need to find my charger.”

After the call ended, Connor sat at his desk, staring at the dark screen. He was lost in thought.

Just then, Aiden knocked and walked in. “Boss, the police in ten other cities have brought those people in for questioning.”

The officer showed them a stack of evidence. “Take a look at these videos. People confessed you paid them to smear others online. We have your chat logs and transfer records too.”

Howard and Alfredo could only stare, stunned. Even though it was sweltering outside, a chill ran through them.

How had this happened so quickly? The trolls they’d hired were scattered across different cities. How did the police round them all up overnight?

Who was this Chief Lydia, really?

To be honest, they’d hesitated before taking the job. Chief Lydia was famous online for keeping a low profile. She had never even shown her face, but somehow she was surrounded by powerful people and her following kept growing.

But the client was offering ten million. It was hard to say no. They’d taken a chance and now it had blown up in their faces.

They’d accepted the job at ten last night, and by morning, the whole operation was busted.

Now, regret was pointless. All they could do was follow the police, their eyes brimming with tears.
