Lydia glanced over at Connor, who was standing just a few steps away, carefully grilling food for her. She couldn’t help but smile a little.
She’d definitely heard all about his reputation. Back when they worked together in Southeast Asia three years ago, he had been cold and intimidating, but he was also someone who stood by his principles and really looked out for his team.
Grandpa Samuel spoke up again. “If you hadn’t shown up, Connor would have insisted on calling off the engagement. We’re lucky you did.”
Lydia blinked in surprise. Was that true? So he was actually planning to break it off?
It was nearly ten when Lydia’s phone buzzed. She checked the screen. It was Potato. He must have everything prepped and ready to go. She declined the call and quickly shot him a text: [Thirty minutes.]
She figured things here would be wrapped up in about half an hour.
Connor sat beside her and caught a glimpse of her message. He wanted to ask what she was up to, but stopped himself, worried she’d think he was prying.
Mr. Jefferson checked the time and stretched with a groan. “I’m getting too old for late nights like this. You young people have more energy than I do.”
Connor stood up. “It’s been a fun night. We should all get some rest.”
Everyone agreed. Chris’ friends looked like they’d been on edge all night. They’d already been nervous eating with Connor, and then Grandpa Samuel showed up. Their nerves were shot.
“Connor, you take Lydia home. Chris and I will head back together,” Grandpa Samuel said.
Lydia shook her head. “That’s okay, Grandpa Samuel. Let Connor go with you. I rode my bike here.”
She was planning to head straight to the Triangle anyway. No need to go back to the Norwood house first.
Mr. Jefferson glanced at Connor, waiting for his response.
Connor figured Lydia had something important going on. He nodded. “Alright. Just be careful on your way.”
“I will.”
“Text me when you get home.”
Four tall agents in black stood at the door of the helicopter. They wore tactical gear and helmets and carried the latest APV10 submachine guns. They greeted her in unison, their voices strong and clear.
Lydia gave a quick nod. “Hey.”
Potato, the one in front, grinned. “So, Lydia, what’s our mission in the Triangle this time?”
Just hearing the word “mission” got everyone fired up.
“We’re heading to Mount Gemspire. We need to find an herb.”
Potato’s jaw dropped. “Wait, seriously?”
No crazy shootouts, just… looking for a plant?
“It probably won’t be that simple. Be ready for anything.”

The readers' comments on the novel: Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back

the next upload is exciting. i cant wait....
Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
