Scar shook his head and raised his hands. “No, no, we’re just here for medicine. We’re not looking for trouble. Please, let Ezra go.”
One of the guys with Scar, a bald man, looked confused by Scar’s sudden shift. He leaned in and whispered, “That guy has to be the boss. And the girl with him is gorgeous. Why don’t we just grab her for Lydia? She’d be over the moon.”
Scar glared at him so hard it could’ve burned a hole right through him. “Keep your mouth shut if you want to live.”
Trying to mess with the woman of Connor? That was just asking to die.
The bald guy immediately clammed up. Still, he was baffled. These outsiders thought a little cash meant they could swagger in and act like kings, disrespecting Black Eagle? Shouldn’t they be the ones worried for their lives?
Connor wasn’t having any of it. “This isn’t a charity. You’ve come to the wrong place if you want free medicine.”
Scar hesitated, his face tight with worry. He clenched his jaw. “We… we can pay.”
Connor didn’t even blink. His voice was cold as ice. “You can’t afford it.”
Next to Connor, Scar felt like a snake that had just lost its bite.
“Please, sir, our boss’ mother caught the P-K55 virus. She’s dying. We’ve been to every hospital, seen all the best doctors. They all say the Sundew Fern from Mount Gemspire is her only hope. Name your price. We’ll pay whatever you want.”
Scar had originally planned to take the herb by force, but that idea was dead now.
As soon as Lydia heard, she called out to Damien. “Let them go. Everyone, step back.”
Damien noticed something was off too. He released Ezra and waved for everyone to retreat.
Seeing this, Scar tried to explain. “We’re not infected, I promise. Anyone in our group who got sick has been quarantined. Most of us just have a mild cold, but our boss’ mother is too frail. We had no choice but to come and beg for the herb.”
She looked him in the eyes. “If this virus is already spreading, someone has to find a cure. Lydora is based here, and I can’t just sit back and watch.”
What really worried her was if the virus left the Triangle and made it back home. That would be chaos.
“But—” Connor started.
“If this virus gets out of control, people are going to flood Mount Gemspire looking for herbs. Who knows what kind of disaster that could bring. It’s better to make the cure, set a fair price, and help as many people as we can.”
Connor reached out and gently brushed her hair from her face. “Alright. If you’re going, I’m coming too.”
Lydia didn’t hesitate. “No. I don’t agree.”

the next upload is exciting. i cant wait....
Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
