Her hands gripped the bedsheets so tightly that her knuckles turned pale.
“Relax. I’m a doctor.”
As Lydia spoke, the old lady’s panic faded away, little by little.
Half an hour later, Lydia carefully removed the needles, disinfected each one, and slipped them back into her kit. The old lady, finally at ease, drifted into a deep sleep.
When Lydia stepped out, Scar, who had clearly been eavesdropping, straightened in a hurry. “So… how is she? Can you save her?”
“The virus has already reached her lungs. I’ve managed to hold it back for now. I’ll let you know as soon as I have an antidote ready.”
Scar stared at her, nervous. “You have to make an antidote? It’s not ready yet?”
“How else would I treat something like this?”
“But... her condition... can she even wait that long?”
The truth was, this virus had already taken a lot of lives in Triangle. If their boss hadn’t gone to such lengths—hiring doctor after doctor for his mother—she might not have made it this far.
“How many people in Black Eagle are infected?” Lydia asked.
Scar’s eyes darted away, avoiding her gaze.
“I need you to be honest with me. If even one person goes untreated, the whole group will be at risk. The infection will just keep spreading. If that happens, not just you, not just your boss, but everyone in Black Eagle could be in danger.”
Scar’s face drained of color. “Is it really that serious?”
“Would people be dying if it wasn’t?”
Lydia hadn’t even tested the old lady’s blood yet, but from what she’d seen, this virus was aggressive. Without quick treatment, it would be fatal.
Night Eagle had been waiting outside, hoping to ask Lydia about his mother. But Lydia just rushed past with her medical kit, not even sparing him a glance.
He turned to Scar, his voice low. “What’s going on?”
Scar answered fast. “Boss, she said she can make the cure in three days. For now, she’s holding back the virus in your mother’s body.”
Night Eagle’s eyes narrowed. “Get the Shadow Doctor. I want him to take a look.”
The Shadow Doctor was Black Eagle’s personal medic, known for his strange remedies that somehow always worked.
It didn’t take long for the Shadow Doctor to arrive, dressed in his usual odd clothes. He checked the old lady over and looked up, stunned. “The virus is really under control...”
Night Eagle stared in disbelief.
So it was true.

Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
