Lydia stood tall at the summit, her back straight, silhouetted against the night like some kind of goddess. Then, out of nowhere, a bullet sliced past her cheek with a sharp hiss.
More bullets came at her, a whole storm of them, but she moved so fast it was like watching lightning. She slipped through the chaos, never hesitating, her eyes fierce and unflinching.
Rex was losing it. He stared at Lydia like he couldn't believe what he was seeing. "Keep shooting! Make her nothing but holes! After tonight, there won't be the legendary hacker L left in this world!"
Behind a huge boulder, Jonas watched the whole thing, heart pounding in his chest. What kind of secret had he stumbled into? Was this young girl really the infamous hacker L?
He felt his mind spinning. What was he supposed to do now? He'd seen way too much for one day and honestly, he could use a doctor. He knew he should go out there and help Lydia, but he had to admit it, he was useless in this kind of situation. If he ran out now, he'd be full of holes in a heartbeat.
So all he could do was watch. And honestly, he’d never admired Lydia more in his life.
She moved through the gunfire like a shadow, impossible to catch. Every movement was smooth and sure. Her eyes were cold, lethal. She looked less like a person and more like some kind of avenging spirit.
The shooting went on for what felt like forever, but finally, Rex’s men just dropped their guns, faces pale, looking totally defeated.
That was it. All those bullets, all that ammo, and they hadn’t even managed to scratch her.
Lydia didn’t even look rattled. She pulled a sleek little silver pistol from her belt and aimed it straight at Rex, her expression cocky.
Rex’s face changed in an instant. His eyes went wide as it hit him. "It was you. You led us here on purpose."
Lydia smirked. "Figure that out a little too late, didn’t you?"
No one was getting off this mountain tonight. This place was going to be their final resting spot.
"Who are you working for?" Rex demanded.
He’d tried calling her, texting her, but she never answered. Eventually, he couldn’t reach her at all. When he saw her location pinging farther and farther off the grid, he knew it was bad.
As soon as his plane landed, he grabbed a helicopter and flew straight here. He’d heard the gunfire. The thought that Lydia might be hurt made his stomach twist.
"Lydia!" he called again, peering into the darkness. It was pitch black below, and he couldn’t see a thing. He cursed under his breath, frustrated.
"I’m here," Lydia called up, her voice steady.
Connor zeroed in on her voice and finally spotted her. He was so desperate to get to her that he barely waited for the ladder, just swung down and jumped the last few feet.
Lydia’s breath caught when she saw him leap from that height. "Connor, are you out of your mind?"

Olha a história bem boa só algumas coisas são chatas ( nesse tipo de história sempre troca as filhas pela a da empregada ou então pegam uma menina pra criar) pelo menos eles tratam a filha bem só enche o saco que até agora a Lucinda tá lá enchendo ! Fora isso tá bom Connor é um fofo a família dela a ama muito só Lucinda pra abaixar o nível do livro já era pra ter resolvido isso e fazer ela pagar mais tudo bem li um livro chinês que era parecido só algumas coisas diferentes ,ais mesma coisa tipo ela salvou o Connor no início lá ela salvava o avô dele , no chinês ela não tinha um irmão mais novo com os pais adotivos , a mãe dela tinha 2 irmãos e todos os avós estavam vivos mais história quase igual e tem coisas tipo o triângulo que lá TB tinha até a Lucinda que no chines TB ficou o livro todo aprontando só no final a família descobria e se livrava dela aí ela ia morar com o cara que ela usa pra disfarçar que não gosta do Connor aí depois ainda quase matava a irmã dele e a mãe dele que ele via como ela era...
