Lucinda instantly dropped her little act and put on her sweetest pout as she moved closer to Blake, slipping her arm through his. “Blake, these shoes are killing me. My feet hurt so much.”
Blake glanced at her hands, then looked down at the shoes. “Out of all the shoes you brought, you picked the ones that hurt?”
Honestly, with how spoiled Lucinda was, if her shoes were rubbing her feet raw, she would have ditched them ages ago. No way she’d wear them all the way to France. And considering her entire outfit was designer, every piece tailored just for her, it was pretty clear she was exaggerating.
“I think it’s just because I’ve had them on too long. I wore them the whole flight, and now they feel so tight.” Lucinda’s words carried a hidden message. She wasn’t deliberately dragging her feet, her shoes just hurt. And maybe, Blake would offer to buy her more shoes.
“Your luggage is in the car. Want to go change into another pair?” Blake knew how she traveled, always with suitcases packed full of clothes, bags, shoes, and jewelry. Her bodyguards and maids were coming too, just not on the private jet since there were too many people. They’d get to the hotel soon to set up her room.
Lucinda gave him a pitiful look. “Let’s not change now. Lydia and Connor are waiting for us. I don’t want to hold everyone up.”
“If you’re really tired, you can head back to the hotel and rest. I’ll have dinner sent up for you. Oh, and when I got Lydia’s welcome gift, I bought some things for you too. They’re already in your room.”
Lucinda felt a mix of annoyance and happiness. She was a little mad that he wanted her to go back to the hotel, but she couldn’t help feeling pleased that he’d thought to get her gifts too.
“Blake? You got me presents?”
“Of course. Haven’t we always brought you something every time they came home?” She really was spoiled. But Lydia... she’d worked so hard, all on her own. It must have been tough. Blake couldn’t help but feel sorry for her
“Blake, I knew you guys loved me the most,” Lucinda said, snuggling his arm and rubbing her cheek against his shoulder, completely ignoring the idea of going back to the hotel.
Kylie smiled at him. “Chris, you’re here in France too?”
Chris nodded. “Yes, Mrs. Norwood. I have a car race tomorrow.”
“Really? What a coincidence. Lucinda has a piano competition the day after tomorrow.” Kylie sounded so proud, happy that all the kids had their own passions.
“It’s summer break. There are a lot of competitions going on,” Chris said simply.
Lucinda rolled her eyes. She couldn’t understand why Chris, a grown man, wasted his time on racing. Seriously, what kind of future did that even have?

Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
