Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 467

Her daughter grew up away from home, never really accepted by the Smith family, but somehow she’d made a name for herself all on her own.

Lucinda felt like her whole world was falling apart. This couldn’t be real. How could Lydia possibly be NO1? She must be making it up just to win the bet.

“Lydia, how can you prove you’re actually NO1?” Lucinda pressed, refusing to believe it.

NO1 had always stayed anonymous, so Lydia was probably just talking big.

Without a word, Lydia pulled out her digital racing license and held it up to Lucinda’s face.

Lucinda’s jaw dropped. She stared for a few seconds before finally stammering, “This has got to be fake, right?”

Everyone around her was speechless. Why was Lucinda so stubborn?

“Lydia!” Chris suddenly rushed over with his teammates, all of them grinning from ear to ear.

“Lydia! Will you take me as your student? I want to learn racing from you!” Chris blurted out, barely able to contain his excitement. He’d spent ages trying to track down NO1 online, and now here she was in front of him. There was no way he was letting this opportunity slip away.

Lydia raised an eyebrow. “Didn’t you always want to race against me? Why are you asking to be my student now?”

Chris rubbed the back of his head, looking a little embarrassed. “I could never beat you. Racing with you today was more than I could have hoped for.”

“And now you want me to mentor you?”

Chris grinned sheepishly. “I mean, I know I’m being greedy, but your skills are legendary. I just want to learn from the best.”

Lydia smiled. “It’s fine. If you have any racing questions, just ask me.”

Chris lit up. “Thank you, Lydia!”

“Well… I think there’s a field nearby,” Chris offered, blinking in disbelief.

Lucinda was so frustrated, she was almost in tears. “Dad, Mom, I just thought… I mean, Lydia’s a girl. I didn’t think she’d be into something as wild as racing…”

She was still throwing shade at Lydia, hinting that racing was only for guys.

Cameron gave her a patient smile. “Well, Lucinda, a bet’s a bet. But since your sister’s NO1, I’m sure she’s not going to make you do something that would actually hurt you. How about you come up with something else?”

Kylie nodded. “Yeah, Lucinda. Maybe you should ask Lydia what she’d like you to do instead.”

Lucinda’s eyes filled with tears as she realized her parents weren’t taking her side at all. Inside, her resentment toward Lydia only grew.

Lydia thought for a moment, then looked straight at Lucinda. “Next time, don’t make bets you can’t keep. Or better yet, just stop making bets altogether. You never win anyway. But since you lost, you can’t just back out now. For Mom and Dad’s sake, how about this? Instead of doing something crazy, go home and copy out The Lord of the Rings a hundred times. That’s a lot better than losing your head, right?”
