Blake listened, his mind wandering. After what happened tonight, it was clear Lydia had real feelings for Connor. She seemed even more on edge than when she was in danger herself.
Lydia didn’t waste a second. She drove straight to the hospital where Connor had been taken. It was close by, just a quick five-minute ride. When she arrived, Chris was pacing back and forth in front of the operating room. The moment he spotted Lydia, a wave of relief washed over him.
“Lydia!”
“How is he?”
Chris looked stricken with guilt. “Connor was shot. The bullet’s really close to his heart. They’re operating on him now. This is all my fault. If it hadn’t been for me, he wouldn’t have gotten hurt.”
It had all happened so fast. Chris knew he had slowed them down, and Connor had taken the bullet protecting him.
Lydia didn’t say anything. She just strode right toward the operating room. The door was locked from the inside, impossible to open without access, but Lydia fiddled with the control panel for a moment. There was a click, and the door swung open.
She walked in, hit immediately by the sharp smell of blood and disinfectant. Instead of heading straight into the main operating room, she ducked into the prep area and quickly changed into sterile scrubs.
Inside, the operating table was surrounded by doctors and nurses. Every top specialist in the hospital was there. Connor lay on the table, his face drained of all color, barely conscious. His left chest was torn and bloody. If not for the faint movement of his breathing, you’d think he was already gone.
That cursed bullet looked like a dark omen, wedged dangerously close to his heart. The tissue around the wound was swollen and delicate. Even the slightest mistake could set off a disaster.
“Dr. Louis, this… what do we do?” A young doctor stared at the wound, sweat trickling down his forehead. The bullet was like a ticking time bomb, just millimeters from Connor’s fragile, beating heart. The tension in the room was suffocating.
Dr. Louis, the most experienced surgeon in the hospital, looked grim. This case was as tough as they came. But the man on the table wasn’t just anyone. If they lost him, none of them would escape the consequences.
“You’re not even from this hospital. Where did you come from? Leave, you’re in our way,” Emily snapped again.
Aiden interrupted. “She’s Mr. Jefferson’s fiancée. I’m authorizing her to lead the surgery.”
Lydia was the legendary Miracle Hands. Was there any operation she couldn’t handle?
When Emily heard Lydia was Connor’s fiancée, her glare sharpened. “She looks so young. Is she even out of med school? She thinks she can do this?”
But inside, Emily was reeling. Mr. Jefferson has a fiancée? Seriously? That can’t be true.
Connor was a shareholder here. He’d visited plenty of times, and the young doctors and nurses all adored him.

thank u!...
thank u for the upload...
the next chapter is exciting...
the next upload is exciting. i cant wait....
Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
