Mrs. Smith’s eyes grew misty as she listened. Her voice trembled, thick with emotion. “Lyds, your grandfather built this house with his own hands. He’s been gone for so long, but I just can’t bring myself to leave this place.”
Lydia didn’t say a word.
Mrs. Smith knew exactly why Lydia was quiet. She tried to reassure her. “Don’t worry. My legs are getting better, slowly but surely. I can take care of myself, really. You don’t need to worry about me.”
Still, Lydia didn’t answer.
Anyone else’s silence would have meant agreement, but not Lydia. Mrs. Smith understood her better than anyone. When Lydia went quiet, it meant she didn’t agree.
Trying to lighten the mood, Mrs. Smith smiled and looked at Lydia with warmth in her eyes. “By the way, Lyds, that driver you brought with you last time… he’s a good one. I like him.”
Lydia gently took her grandmother’s thin, bony hand in hers. “If you like him, I’ll bring him over next time too.”
Mrs. Smith nodded right away. “That would be nice. When my legs are back to normal, I’ll cook something for you both. Although… all I know is simple home cooking. I don’t know if it’ll suit his taste.”
Lydia let out a soft laugh. “If I like it, he’ll like it too.”
Then Lydia’s voice turned serious. “If you don’t want to go to the capital, then let his people stay here and keep watch. Otherwise, I won’t be able to relax.” She looked up at her grandmother.
Back when Lydia had to be away for any length of time, she always made sure someone was secretly watching over her grandmother. Connor had thought of that too. Lydia felt grateful. And honestly, she was moved.
Ever since Lydia came back, Mrs. Smith had known she’d found out what Jenson and Milana had done.
“Alright. But honestly, those two are too busy dealing with their own messes. They don’t have the time or energy to bother with me now.”
Lydia’s voice turned icy. “They might be in trouble, but they’re still after the shares you hold.”
Jenson and Milana had already crossed the line by laying a hand on her grandmother. Lydia had no intention of showing mercy.
Mrs. Smith let out a heavy sigh. “The company’s already in ruins because of them. Lyds, you should find a way to take over. As for Jenson and Milana, just do whatever you think is best.”
A voice called in from the yard.
Lydia immediately opened her eyes and sat up straight, her expression turning tense.
Mrs. Smith froze for a second. The voice called out again, and this time she recognized it. She looked at Lydia in surprise. “Lyds, is that Jay? Isn’t he supposed to be studying abroad? He’s back already?”
Lydia nodded. “I think so.”
A moment later, Mrs. Smith saw Iceblade come in, his arms full of bags and gifts.
“Grandma.” To Mrs. Smith, Iceblade was still just a college kid, innocent and bright.
“Jay, it’s been ages. You’re back from overseas?”
He nodded politely. “Yeah, Grandma. Lydia happened to be in France too. We ran into each other at a car race and figured we’d come home together for a visit.”

the next upload is exciting. i cant wait....
Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
