Lydia didn’t even blink. “It’s alright. He’s inside waiting for you.”
Mikey gave her a polite nod and headed in first. Chris flashed Lydia an awkward smile and trailed after him.
Connor looked at his two younger brothers with obvious annoyance. He kept his voice cool. “It’s late. What do you want?”
Mikey looked apologetic. “Chris told me you got hurt overseas. I finished work as soon as I could and came by to check on you.”
Mikey hardly ever finished work early. He’d come straight from the office tonight, and honestly, he hadn’t expected to show up right in the middle of his brother’s private time. But in Mikey’s mind, Blake had always been disciplined, the kind who never lost his composure.
Now, though…
Connor cut him off. “Lydia is taking care of me. I’m fine. Since you’ve seen me, go home and get some rest.”
Chris thought, I haven’t even said anything yet. Isn’t it a bit much to kick us out already? Still, he kept his mouth shut.
Mikey was just about to say something when his phone buzzed. He checked the screen and saw it was Grandpa Samuel calling.
Chris, standing right beside him, whispered quickly, “Remember, Connor said not to tell Grandpa about his injury yet.”
The attack on Connor wasn’t just some random thing. With so much still unclear, they didn’t want their grandfather to worry.
Mikey nodded. “I know.”
He stepped aside and answered. Grandpa Samuel’s voice boomed through the phone. “You three troublemakers, why is it so late and none of you are home?”
Connor had already told everyone he was busy with work and spending time with Lydia, so he wouldn’t be at the family house for a while. Mikey and Chris, though, hadn’t mentioned a thing.
Mikey chuckled. “Grandpa, you know I always work late. I’ll be home soon.”
“Don’t think I don’t know what’s going on. Are you and Chris at Connor’s place right now?”
“You really don’t miss a thing, Grandpa.”
Normally, Grandpa would have jumped at the chance to give Mikey a hard time about being his age and still single. But this time, he just nodded. “Alright. I understand.”
That left Mikey stunned, and Chris, who’d been listening in, looked just as shocked.
What was up with Grandpa? Since when did he back off so easily? Or maybe now that Connor was with Lydia, Grandpa wasn’t in such a rush to push the rest of them.
Before they could say another word, Grandpa hung up.
Chris let out a low whistle. “This feels weird.”
Mikey nodded. Grandpa’s attitude was definitely different.
“Normally, Grandpa would do anything to get you to meet whoever it is. Why did he let it go so fast this time? And who does Grandpa Wayne even want to set you up with?”
Chris turned to Lydia. “Lydia, do you know anything about Grandpa Wayne trying to introduce someone to my brother?”

the next upload is exciting. i cant wait....
Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
