Jenson watched Clark and Vivia walk away, then glanced at Milana with uncertainty. “Shouldn’t we give them a heads-up? Sandy’s still supposed to marry into the Lane family.”

Milana rolled her eyes. “Didn’t you see Miss Davis? She’s clearly planning to stand up for Lydia. Nothing good comes from crossing the Davis family. If things fall through, Sandy can just marry someone else. There are plenty of eligible people at this party.”

Jenson thought it over. They could afford to offend Lydia. With his mother around, Lydia wouldn’t dare go too far. But the Davis family? That was a different story. The Lanes were just asking for trouble.

Before he could dwell on it, a bloodcurdling scream echoed through the hall.

“Ah!”

“Miss Davis, please! I’m begging you!”

“Let me go, I didn’t know she was with you!”

Soren was curled up in the corner, shaking as Juna hit him with a taser. He looked completely pathetic.

Clark and Vivia were held back by bodyguards, helpless as their son cried and begged like a wounded animal.

Lydia just sat there on the sofa, calmly sipping her coffee.

Soren had walked right into this, so now he had to face the consequences.

Juna smiled. “You’ve got it wrong. She’s not with me.”

Soren froze, totally confused.

“Then you...?”

“I’m with her,” Juna replied.

Soren stared at her, still not getting it. For a split second, he even wondered if Juna and Lydia were a couple.

Juna added, “Lydia is my boss. Understand?”

Juna looked at him with pure disdain. “You really are dumb. You have no idea what you missed out on. Idiot. Teach him a lesson. Don’t kill him. Just stop when he passes out and then dump him outside. That’s what you get for messing with Lydia.”

At her command, two more bodyguards stepped up and started beating Soren.

Clark and Vivia begged Juna to stop. “Miss Davis, please, that’s enough! He’ll get himself killed! We are sorry, please let him go!”

They didn’t want to believe Lydia could be Juna’s boss either. It sounded impossible, but why would Juna make that up? None of this made sense to them.

Juna huffed. “You didn’t raise your son right. I’m just giving him the lesson you never did. Don’t worry, he’ll live.”

Vivia looked like she might faint from panic.

It didn’t take long before Soren passed out.

“Alright, toss him out the back door,” Juna said, waving her hand as she sat down with Lydia for tea.

Vivia sobbed, her eyes red and swollen. She glared at Lydia and screamed, “Lydia! You’re absolutely vile! When you were little, didn’t I visit you and your family at Mrs. Smith’s house? Now that you’ve made it, this is how you treat us?”
