Lydia’s eyes cleared, sharp and determined, like she’d snapped right back into her old self.
“We’re starting the surgery.”
Her grandmother was in critical condition. Lydia couldn’t trust anyone else with her life, not even Dr. Hady.
Inside the operating room, the lights blazed bright, making it feel like midday. The tension was so thick it was almost suffocating. Lydia’s focus never wavered. The instruments in her hands seemed to move on their own, every action precise and controlled. Every decision, every movement, was a matter of life and death.
“Incision.”
“Stop the bleeding.”
“Sutures.”
Lydia’s hands were fast and steady. It was like she was racing against death itself. Dr. Hady and the assistants matched her intensity, following her instructions without hesitation. They passed instruments back and forth, checked the monitors, each movement part of a careful, urgent rhythm.
Time crawled by. Minutes turned into hours. The only sounds were the soft click of tools and the occasional quick exchange of words. Everyone in the room knew exactly what was at stake. They were fighting to pull someone back from the edge. They couldn’t afford a single mistake.
Anyone else in Lydia’s place probably would have lost the patient already.
Outside, Connor wasn’t just pacing the halls. He made sure Sandy was locked up and under watch, and sent Aiden to investigate everything that had happened. Only Sandy had been with Mrs. Smith when she fell. Maybe it had been an accident, but maybe Sandy had pushed her down the stairs. Nothing was certain yet.
Cameron and Kylie rushed over as soon as they heard. They hadn’t even known about the accident until Kylie called to ask why Lydia was so late. Connor had picked up and told them what was going on. That was how they found out Lydia was in surgery, and that things were bad.
“Connor, is she badly hurt?”
Connor’s face said it all, and Lydia had already been in there for four hours with no word. It was impossible not to worry.
Connor nodded, his voice low. “Yeah.”
“She fell by herself. Even if Sandy was there, so what? As long as she didn’t push her, Lydia can’t do anything to her.”
“What if something does happen to Mom?”
The truth was, Jenson wasn’t just worried about his mother. He was thinking about her inheritance.
“If something happens, you’re her only son, so you get everything. Lydia isn’t even a Smith anymore. She doesn’t get a cent.”
Honestly, Milana couldn’t wait for Mrs. Smith to finally be gone. She’d been hoping for that day for years.
Still, with Lydia there, she figured Mrs. Smith would survive. Maybe she’d suffer a bit, but she’d live.
Inside the operating room, Lydia’s body was running on empty, but her mind stayed razor sharp.

thank u!...
thank u for the upload...
the next chapter is exciting...
the next upload is exciting. i cant wait....
Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
