Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 586

Sandy felt like she was about to snap. “Lydia, if I stay in here any longer, I’m seriously going to lose it. I get that you want to keep me here until Grandma wakes up, and fine, I won’t fight you. Just… please, can you take me somewhere with some sunlight? I can’t stand being trapped in here…”

Her voice was desperate, her big eyes pleading. Next to her, Lydia just looked even colder, totally unmoved by Sandy’s misery.

“If you want out, just tell the truth,” Lydia replied, her face unreadable.

Sandy’s last bit of patience crumbled. Her voice came out rough and shaky. “I am telling the truth! Why won’t you believe me? How’s Grandma? Is she going to wake up soon?”

Lydia didn’t answer. The truth was, she didn’t know either.

Sandy started crying again. “I’ve been missing for so long… Haven’t they been looking for me?” She meant Jenson and Milana, of course.

Lydia just turned away, ignoring her. Sensing she had a shot, Sandy tried to bolt for the door, but Lydia was faster. She slammed the heavy door shut before Sandy could get out.

Sandy pounded on the iron door, her hands aching. “Lydia! Let me out! Lydia!”

Downstairs, Lydia had just reached the garage and was about to leave for the Norwood estate when Milana suddenly showed up, blocking her way. “Lydia, where’s Sandy?” Milana demanded. “What did you do to her?”

Lydia just gave her a cold smile. “Since when do you care what happens to her?”

Milana hesitated, her anger flickering. “I might not be her biggest fan, but she’s still my daughter. She’s my own flesh and blood! Lydia, what did you do with her?”

Lydia didn’t even bother to respond. She simply brushed past Milana, shoving her aside. For someone who looked so thin and fragile, Lydia sure packed a punch. Milana stumbled, slamming into the side of a car with enough force to make her whole body ache.

Cameron let out a quiet sigh. “Connor told me Mrs. Smith was moved to a regular room today. We should go visit her tomorrow.”

Before, she’d been in the ICU, so they hadn’t been allowed in.

Kylie nodded. “That sounds good.”

Lucinda watched as Lydia disappeared up the stairs, her brow furrowing just a bit. With Lydia in such a bad place, the whole house had felt heavy for days.

Later, when Lucinda went back to her room, Grace followed her in, looking weirdly cheerful. “I heard the Smith family’s old lady is already pretty old. Even if nothing had happened, she probably wouldn’t have had much time left anyway. Isn’t Lydia taking this a little too hard?”
