Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 598

Jenson immediately agreed, thinking it sounded like a great idea. Luke was his only son, and after everything he’d been through, surviving that close call, it felt right to throw a big party to celebrate. “Alright then,” he said, “you take care of Luke’s birthday party. Let’s shake off the bad luck a little.”

Ever since Luke’s accident, it seemed like nothing good had happened to the Smith family. Now that he was almost back to normal, and with his fifteenth birthday coming up, this was the perfect moment for a celebration.

Sandy heard all of this and couldn’t help feeling a pang of bitterness. They had more than one child, yet the difference in how they treated them couldn’t have been more obvious. They always favored their son, and if she didn’t start fighting for herself, how was she supposed to get by in this family?

Lydia stayed at the hospital with Mrs. Smith until six in the evening before heading back to the Norwood house. She was almost at the villa when a sports car suddenly tried to cut her off. Both of them were driving pretty fast. If she hadn’t reacted quickly, they probably would have ended up with matching scratches.

The other driver rolled down his window, so Lydia did the same. Their eyes met, and both of them froze for a second. Lydia still had her mask on, and so did Elliot, though his hat was gone. Even without a word, they recognized each other instantly.

Lydia frowned. What was this guy doing here? Why had he followed her?

Elliot looked surprised too, but he gave her a small smile and said, “Miss Lorelei, you live around here too?”

Lydia nodded. “Yeah.”

“You go ahead,” Elliot offered politely.

Lydia didn’t argue. She turned the wheel and drove ahead, with Elliot following behind. He was feeling more and more confused. When he saw Lydia drive right through the gates of his own family’s house, he stopped in disbelief. What was going on? Was Lorelei coming to his house? Did she know his family?

Still puzzled, Elliot drove in after her.

Lydia got out of her car just as Elliot parked next to her. They barely had a chance to react before Kylie came out of the house, and the butler and housekeepers all greeted them warmly.

Kylie gave him a look and reminded him, “Elliot, did you bring a gift for your sister?”

That snapped him back. “Of course, of course,” he said, hurrying over to the back of his car. He popped open the trunk to reveal it was packed full of luxury brands, art pieces from overseas, and a mountain of cute plushies. The whole front was covered with gifts.

“I couldn’t bring too much back with me, so this is just a little something. Tomorrow I’ll pick out more for you.”

Looking at his collection, Elliot suddenly felt embarrassed. These were the kind of gifts girls usually liked, but his sister was a pop star. What could possibly impress her?

Lydia laughed softly. “You really don’t have to get more. This is already a lot.”

Kylie leaned over to check out the haul and commented, “Elliot, next time you get gifts for your sister, try to mix up the brands a bit. I see you picked out a lot from LYLX.”
