Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 672

Lydia had heard them talking about it out in the hallway, but she honestly hadn’t checked the forum. She didn’t even know what was going on.

“I haven’t seen anything yet,” she said.

Fiona’s eyes lit up. “Lydia, you have to check it! The votes are still going up.”

When Lydia said she didn’t know, Daisy looked at her like she was telling the world’s worst lie. Not know? Please.

“Lydia, you are in the campus queen contest on the school forum. That’s huge. How could you not know?” Daisy’s voice was all fake surprise, her hand flying to her mouth like she was in a drama.

Lydia couldn’t even bother to look impressed. “Is being in the contest supposed to be a big deal?”

Daisy was caught off guard. She never expected Lydia to talk back like that.

Wasn’t it a big deal? Campus queen. Out of thousands of students, to be picked as the prettiest girl on campus... wasn’t that important?

Daisy felt awkward, not sure what to say. So she forced a laugh and glanced at Fiona and Monica. “Look, Fiona, Monica, you two are getting all excited because Lydia’s in first place, but clearly she doesn’t even care.”

Basically, she was saying, Why are you two so worked up when she couldn’t care less?

Lydia met Daisy’s stare, her voice cool. “Don’t be so passive-aggressive. I said I didn’t know. That’s the truth.”

Daisy froze, not believing what she’d just heard.

Did Lydia just call her out for being passive-aggressive?

“What? Lydia, we’re classmates. We’re going to be living in the same dorm for the next three years. Are you really going to talk to me like that?” Daisy looked down at Lydia like she was a teacher scolding a misbehaving student.

Daisy looked like she was about to explode. She glared at Monica and Fiona. “I was just trying to help you, and now you’re blaming me? Whatever. How she treats you is your problem. I don’t care anymore. I’m tired, I’m going to sleep.”

She climbed into bed, yanked her blanket over her head, and pretended to nap.

The room went quiet and awkward. After a second, Lydia pulled two small, plain white bottles from her backpack and handed them to Monica and Fiona.

“Training starts tomorrow and the sun’s going to be brutal. This sunscreen works really well.”

Lydia had made this sunscreen herself just for the start of the semester. She’d given one to Juna at lunch, and she’d planned to give one to each roommate. Now, she figured Daisy didn’t need one.

Monica and Fiona looked surprised and a little shy. “Oh, but… we already bought some.”

Every girl was getting ready for orientation week. No one wanted to get sunburned during training, so everyone had their sunscreen.
