Milana couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy every time she saw how much Mrs. Smith doted on Lydia. Even though the old woman was frail and tucked away in the countryside, she still controlled a big chunk of the company’s shares. They really needed to figure out how to get her to transfer them over soon. Only then would she finally relax.
Jenson understood exactly what was on Milana’s mind. He nodded. “I know.”
Sandy, who had been listening in, jumped in right away. “Dad, Mom, I spent a fortune at the auction tonight on some premium antler and ginseng. I’ll bring it to Grandma in the next couple of days to help her get stronger.”
Milana rolled her eyes inwardly. That old crone didn’t deserve it.
But Jenson just beamed at Sandy. “Sandy, you really are a good kid. Your grandmother will be so happy to hear that.”
Sandy put on her best sweet-and-obedient face. “Dad, it’s the least I can do.”
Watching Sandy act so well-behaved made Jenson think of his precious son, Luke, who was still in the ICU. He let out a sigh. “Sandy, you have a lot of responsibility on your shoulders. Your brother is counting on—”
“Your brother will need you to take care of him after he wakes up,” Milana cut in, shooting Jenson a warning look.
Sandy was their biological daughter, sure, but she hadn’t been back for long. Plus, they still hadn’t settled on a treatment plan for Luke, so they couldn’t risk telling her she might have to donate a kidney to save him. Donation was risky. What if Sandy refused and ran off? Where else would they find such a perfect match for their beloved son?
Sandy puffed up her chest, eager to reassure them. “Dad, Mom, don’t worry. I’m his big sister. Of course I’ll take good care of him.”
Honestly, looking after her brother was nothing compared to what she’d lived through with the White family in the countryside. As long as she could stay in this house, she’d do anything.
Milana nodded, looking pleased. “When your brother wakes up and sees he has such a caring sister, he’ll probably cry from happiness. Lydia could never compare.”
“Lydia, did you sleep well last night?” Kylie spotted her and walked over with a warm smile.
Lydia smiled and nodded. “Yeah.”
“That’s good. If there’s anything you’re not used to, make sure you tell me, alright?”
“Okay.”
Lucinda’s smile stiffened just a little. It seemed like every time she was at her happiest, Lydia would show up and ruin the mood.

Olha a história bem boa só algumas coisas são chatas ( nesse tipo de história sempre troca as filhas pela a da empregada ou então pegam uma menina pra criar) pelo menos eles tratam a filha bem só enche o saco que até agora a Lucinda tá lá enchendo ! Fora isso tá bom Connor é um fofo a família dela a ama muito só Lucinda pra abaixar o nível do livro já era pra ter resolvido isso e fazer ela pagar mais tudo bem li um livro chinês que era parecido só algumas coisas diferentes ,ais mesma coisa tipo ela salvou o Connor no início lá ela salvava o avô dele , no chinês ela não tinha um irmão mais novo com os pais adotivos , a mãe dela tinha 2 irmãos e todos os avós estavam vivos mais história quase igual e tem coisas tipo o triângulo que lá TB tinha até a Lucinda que no chines TB ficou o livro todo aprontando só no final a família descobria e se livrava dela aí ela ia morar com o cara que ela usa pra disfarçar que não gosta do Connor aí depois ainda quase matava a irmã dele e a mãe dele que ele via como ela era...
