Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 760

Christie’s heart skipped a beat. She turned to Stephen, her voice shaky. “Honey, what is she even talking about? How did we suddenly end up with two lawsuits on our hands?”

Stephen’s face twisted with anger. He glared at Christie. “Idiot. You’re going to ruin me, you know that?”

With two police officers standing right there, Stephen didn’t have a choice. He might have a few connections in the city, but when the cops said he had to come down to the station, he had to listen. He shot Christie a look full of blame. This woman and her son were going to be the end of him.

The second Lydia saw Christie, she noticed the dress right away. It was a fake. LYLX had a reputation for coming down hard on anyone caught copying their work. People learned the hard way it wasn’t worth messing with the brand.

Greenward Power hadn’t always been like that. Back when the company was struggling, nobody cared much about knockoffs. Now, though, Greenward Power was everywhere. Sales were through the roof, and orders kept piling in. With the sudden success, the copycats came crawling back, hoping to cash in.

Lydia had been meaning to deal with the plagiarism, but she’d been busy. Today, though, Christie had shown up in a knockoff right in front of her. There was no letting it slide.

Fred had been so sure of himself, acting like Lydia was just some poor nobody with a rusty bike. The second Lydia revealed who she was, and that she was connected to the plagiarism case, Fred shut up. He looked stunned.

Stephen stared at Lydia, his eyes wide. “You’re the president of Greenward Power?”

Christie just shook her head, still not believing it. “Honey, there’s no way she’s the president. She grew up in Lakeview Town. Her family’s so poor they can barely afford food. She’s lying. She has to be.”

Stephen cut her off, his voice tight. “Shut up.” He turned to Lydia, his breathing uneven. “You… you’re Miss L?”

Lydia nodded. “That’s me.”

Stephen felt the strength drain from his body. He knew he was finished. He’d picked the absolute worst fight.

Christie’s voice cracked as she pleaded. “Stephen, you can’t just abandon me. Honey, you can’t divorce me, you can’t just leave us like this.” Her face had turned ghostly pale.

Stephen was old, sure, and he had a family to support, but he also had money. Every month, he gave Christie half a million for spending, bought her fancy cars and a big house, and showered her with jewelry. He’d always given her whatever she wanted.

But if he divorced her, she’d have nothing.

Stephen’s patience snapped. “You and your son are just too much trouble. Find someone else to leech off. Once we’re out of the station, we’re getting a divorce. Even if you say no, if I want it, it’ll happen.”

Christie was frantic, her anger boiling over. She turned and smacked Fred on the head. “You useless brat, this is all your fault! Why did you have to mess with them? Go apologize to Luke and Lydia. Get down on your knees and apologize, right now!”
