What a setup. Kevin’s smile froze, making his face look even older for a second. That was not what he’d meant at all. Connor was real trouble, and Kevin wanted nothing to do with that. He rushed to explain, “Pplease, don’t get the wrong idea. I just meant that, between Lydia and Yara, Lydia really stands out.”
Garrett let out a short laugh. “It’s not about me playing favorites with Lydia. Honestly, Yara and Lydia aren’t even on the same level. Lydia doesn’t even bother to compete with her.”
Garrett didn’t want to stir things up any further. If he did, those nasty comments Yara posted using Lewis’s account would be enough to ruin her for good. Yara had always cared more about her reputation than anything. She’d protected it all her life. But this time, she let her guard down.
Everyone at school was doubting the official statement. Still, because things were tense, nobody dared to speak up. The way people looked at Yara had changed. The warmth she used to get from her friends was gone.
That evening, leaving the cafeteria, Yara had no interest in going to the lab. She needed space to breathe. She couldn’t even bring herself to remember the way everyone stared during dinner.
“Yara, are you okay? Are you sure you don’t want to go to the lab?” Tina asked softly. She had questions of her own, but seeing Yara like this, she kept them to herself.
Yara shook her head. “No, Tina, you should go. I’m just tired. I want to rest.”
Tina didn’t hesitate. “Then I’ll go with you. Yara, no matter what anyone else says, I believe you.”
Yara managed a small, grateful smile. “Thanks, Tina.”
They walked back to their dorm together. Just as they reached the door, voices drifted from inside.
“Do you really think that poll and all the stuff trashing Lydia was just because Mr. Johnson’s account got hacked?”
Tina glared at their own roommates. “Yara’s always been good to you, right? She shares everything. And now you’re teaming up with others to talk behind her back?”
Dara, one of the roommates, couldn’t take it. “Everyone’s talking about it. We were just discussing. Why are you making such a big deal? If she didn’t do it, she should prove it.”
“Dara, you—”
Yara cut in, her eyes red. “It’s fine, Tina. Don’t say any more.”
She covered her face, turned, and ran out of the room. She couldn’t understand how things had gotten so out of control. Just a little while ago, everything was normal.

thank u!...
thank u for the upload...
the next chapter is exciting...
the next upload is exciting. i cant wait....
Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
