Honestly, Lucinda’s reputation as a math genius was a little overhyped. Most of it came from her being the daughter of the richest man in town. Ever since school started, she had been building alliances, getting people on her side, encouraging them to praise her, support her, and spread her legend. Sure, she had some real talent, and with all that extra help, it wasn’t hard for everyone to start calling her a genius. Today, though, compared to Lydia, the difference couldn’t have been more obvious.
Lucinda never thought Lydia would be this good at math. She had planned for Lydia to embarrass herself in front of the staff and students, but now it was Lucinda who felt like the joke. Lydia, on the other hand, was being celebrated as a real academic prodigy.
Why did it always have to be Lydia stealing her thunder?
As Lucinda listened to the murmurs and whispers spreading through the room, she honestly wanted to crawl into a hole and drag everyone in with her.
Finally, Lydia stopped writing. The whiteboard was covered from top to bottom with her neat, confident solution. The whole room seemed to freeze.
“That’s the full solution,” Lydia said, her voice calm and steady. She put the marker back where it belonged.
Mr. Gartner looked like he was about to burst with excitement. His hands actually shook as he clapped.
“Perfect. Absolutely perfect!” he said, applauding so hard it echoed around the hall.
Suddenly, everyone joined in, the room exploding with applause, cheers, and even a few shrieks from the students.
“Lydia’s amazing!”
“She’s unstoppable!”
“Lydia is the best!”
Juan watched all of this with a sour look, his eyes dark and cold. He hadn’t expected Lydia to actually be this good. Not only had his plan to humiliate her failed, but now she was even more popular than before. Lydia glanced his way, almost like she knew exactly what he was thinking. He stiffened, clenching his fists so tightly his knuckles turned white.
Lydia didn’t want to stick around. She had already solved the problem and was ready to leave, but Mr. Gartner and a few judges stopped her.
They insisted on giving her an award.

thank u!...

Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
