Connor’s eyes flickered for a moment. He nodded, his voice steady. “I know, Grandpa.”
No matter how high Jackson climbed, Connor would never let the Hydes or Gibsons mess with Lydia.
Lydia just shrugged, her smile easy. “Grandpa Samuel, I can handle myself.”
To her, Jackson was just some boss monster who’d leveled up. Nothing worth losing sleep over. Honestly, with everyone’s attention on him now, Jackson would have to tread carefully. One wrong step from the top, and it was a long, hard fall.
Grandpa Samuel burst out laughing. “That’s the spirit! That’s what I like to hear from a Jefferson granddaughter-in-law.”
He grinned at them, then huffed. “But don’t you two worry. If Jackson even thinks about coming after you, I know exactly how to make the Hydes vanish from the Capital.”
Connor’s gaze sharpened. “He wouldn’t dare to come at us directly. He’ll stay in the shadows, pulling strings, playing little tricks.”
Lydia smirked. “Let’s see who’s better at playing games, then.”
The more Grandpa Samuel saw them together, the more he thought they were just perfect for each other. The Jefferson family was so lucky to have Lydia.
“Oh, Lydia, there’s something I need to tell you.”
Looking a little sheepish, Grandpa Samuel reached behind him and pulled out a polished mahogany box. Lydia could tell at a glance that the box alone was worth a small fortune.
“Connor’s mom was supposed to come home for the holiday reunion, but she caught a cold a few days ago. The doctors over there think the long flight might make it worse, so they want her to rest and come back when she’s better.”
Connor frowned. “Why didn’t anyone tell me?”
Grandpa Samuel shot him a look. “You’re always busy. Your mom didn’t want you or your brothers to worry, so she kept it quiet. She just sent a gift back, asked me to pass it on to Lydia for her.”
Lydia leaned forward, concerned. “Is she really unwell? If it’s serious, I can go visit her. I’m on break anyway.”

thank u!...
thank u for the upload...
the next chapter is exciting...
the next upload is exciting. i cant wait....
Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
