Rosie could barely sit still in front of the TV, practically bouncing with excitement. “Mom, look! That’s Uncle Jackson!”
Mandy lifted her chin with pride and smiled. “That’s him, alright. He’s spent half his life serving our country, and now his hard work is finally paying off.”
Rosie let out a triumphant snort. “No one will ever mess with us again.”
Mandy gave her a sharp look. “Rosie, he warned us yesterday. He’s just started this new position. He can’t afford any slip-ups, so you need to keep your head down and not make any trouble that could hurt him.”
After spending time in jail, Mandy saw things much more clearly. If anyone in the Gibson family became a burden to Jackson, he wouldn’t hesitate to cut them off. She knew that first-hand. That was Jackson’s way of sending a message, and she got it loud and clear.
When push came to shove, she was only the adopted daughter of the Hydes family. The Hydes always chose what was best for themselves, even if it meant marrying her daughter off to someone from the Goss family just to help Jackson’s career.
Rosie huffed. “But how long are we supposed to put up with this? I’m so over Lydia. I wish she would just disappear for good.”
“Rosie, how many times do I have to tell you? You need to be patient. It’s never too late to get revenge.”
Rosie rolled her eyes but backed down. “I get it, Mom. I’m just venting. I’ll follow Uncle’s plan, whatever it is.”
Mandy nodded, satisfied. “Oh, and I heard Alfie stood up for you at the academic competition and even challenged Lydia because of you. That says a lot about how serious he is, Rosie. Don’t take it for granted.”
Rosie just looked disgusted. “Mom, can we not talk about him? He’s such an idiot. Everyone thinks he’s some computer genius, but he couldn’t even beat Lydia.”
Mandy shook her head. “Lydia’s sneaky and has powerful people on her side. Our whole family can’t figure out how to deal with her. It’s not fair to expect Alfie to win against her all by himself.”

Olha a história bem boa só algumas coisas são chatas ( nesse tipo de história sempre troca as filhas pela a da empregada ou então pegam uma menina pra criar) pelo menos eles tratam a filha bem só enche o saco que até agora a Lucinda tá lá enchendo ! Fora isso tá bom Connor é um fofo a família dela a ama muito só Lucinda pra abaixar o nível do livro já era pra ter resolvido isso e fazer ela pagar mais tudo bem li um livro chinês que era parecido só algumas coisas diferentes ,ais mesma coisa tipo ela salvou o Connor no início lá ela salvava o avô dele , no chinês ela não tinha um irmão mais novo com os pais adotivos , a mãe dela tinha 2 irmãos e todos os avós estavam vivos mais história quase igual e tem coisas tipo o triângulo que lá TB tinha até a Lucinda que no chines TB ficou o livro todo aprontando só no final a família descobria e se livrava dela aí ela ia morar com o cara que ela usa pra disfarçar que não gosta do Connor aí depois ainda quase matava a irmã dele e a mãe dele que ele via como ela era...
