Lucinda bolted out of the police station, not stopping until she reached the big bridge up ahead. Night had settled, thick and heavy, covering everything in deep shadows. She stood alone on the bridge, the river stretching out below, the whole structure outlined by soft yellow streetlights. It looked almost like a giant creature curled up in the dark, silent and mysterious.
The wind off the river whipped her hair everywhere, strands sticking to her cheeks, but she didn’t even notice. Her eyes were fixed on the distance, where city lights flickered across the water. The reflections looked like a million broken dreams, scattered and unreachable.
Her shadow stretched out behind her, long and lonely in the glow of the streetlights.
“Lucinda! What are you doing? Get down from there!”
Cameron, Kylie, and a few officers rushed up, just in time to see Lucinda climbing onto the railing. Her face was pale, her eyes swollen from crying. She looked so small and lost, like a child nobody wanted. She stared at Cameron and Kylie, her voice trembling with tears. “Dad, Mom, I’m sorry. I know I let you down. I always thought of you as my real parents…”
She hesitated, voice breaking. “But now… now you have my sister. I’m just extra, just in the way. I’m not as good as her, not as understanding, not as smart…”
“Lucinda, please, don’t do this. Come down, okay? We’ll talk at home,” Cameron said, his voice soft, almost pleading.
No matter what happened, Lucinda had been their girl since she was little. Even if she wasn’t theirs by blood, she was their daughter in every way that mattered.
Lucinda shook her head, her eyes shining with stubborn resolve. “I can’t keep dragging you down. I don’t want to embarrass you or disappoint you anymore. I never wanted to hurt my sister. I just wanted her to be happy.”
“We know, Lucinda. Please, just come down, okay?” Kylie’s voice shook as she watched Lucinda, her hands clenched tight.

thank u!...
thank u for the upload...
the next chapter is exciting...
the next upload is exciting. i cant wait....
Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
