Meanwhile, in a study that looked aged and historical, the faint hum of a ticking grand pa clock filled the silence. The space carried an air of permanence. Antique shelves lined with perfectly arranged books, dark wood polished to a mirror sheen, and walls that had witnessed more secrets than history itself dared to record.
Behind a broad desk sat a man whose very stillness commanded the room, the same man Lucian was searching for. His presence was composed, but the faint tension in his jaw betrayed the temper simmering beneath.
The door creaked open.
A gu
entered, his boots hesitant against the marble floor. “S–sir,” he began, voice quivering slightly, “we just received confirmation. Lucian Blackwood… he’s in Ravinne.”
The man’s head lifted slowly, eyes narrowing in quiet disbelief. “Repeat that.”
“Lucian Blavkwood, sir,” the guard said quickly, his hands trembling against the folder he held. “He’s been spotted in Ravinne.”
The room fell silent for a long, dreadful heartbeat.
Then, in a tone too calm to be comforting, the man asked, “And why am I only finding out now?”
The guard’s breath hitched. “We..,we only found out today, sir. He’s been keeping a low profile. None of our sources-”
“Low profile?” The man’s voice sharpened, slicing through the sentence like glass. He rose from his seat, the movement controlled but filled with restrained fury. “Lucian Blackwood has been in my city for how long?”
“T–two weeks, perhaps,” the guard stammered, lowering his gaze. “But we didn’t know until-”
“Until today,” the man finished coldly, stepping around the desk. His presence was suffocating, his voice soft but dangerous. “Tell me, what exactly do I pay you people for if you can’t track one man?”
The guard’s knees nearly buckled. “Forgive me, sir. We’re working on tracing his movements. But so far, he hasn’t found anything on you.”
The man gave a quiet, humorless laugh. “Of course he haven’t. I made sure of that.”
The guard blinked, confused and terrified.
He continued, “I erased every thread that could lead back to me. Every gossip, every trace. Even Lucius Stomvale won’t find me unless I want him to.”
The guard said nothing, head bowed in silent apology.

The man exhaled slowly, the anger settling back into something colder, deadlier. “Get out,” he said simply. “And make sure not a single word of this leaves this room.”
“Yes, sir!” The guard saluted hastily and fled, nearly tripping over his own boots as he shut the door behind
him.
Silence reclaimed the study, until-
“Jessica.”
“You called for me, sir?” A soft, composed voice came from behind.
Jessica stepped out from the shadowed side of the room, poised and calm. Her tone was respectful, yet carried that quiet hunger for approval that came from a place of both feared and admired.
He turned her, his expression unreadable. “Yes. Come here.”
She obeyed inmediately, her heels barely making a sound on the marble as she stopped before his desk.
He studied her face, cold beauty, and disciplined composure. “You’ve heard about the Evergreens‘ upcoming celebration?”
Jessica nodded. “For Alina. A welcoming event, from what I gathered.” Her voice was tight, her fiat clenched.
“Exactly,” he said, voice curling with disdain. “A spectacle of sentiment and vanity. Perfect for what I need.”
She tilted her head slightly. “What do you want done?”
“Now is your time yo get your revenge..I want you to strike then.”
Her gaze sharpened, though her voice remained level. She has been waiting gor thia moment for a long time now. “During the event?”
“Yes.” He leaned against the edge of the desk, folding his arms. “While the family celebrates. While the world watches and applauds. That’s when you move.”
Jessica nodded once, her tone crisp. “Understood.”
“I want it to be clean,” he continued. “Precise. No chaos, no mistakes. The Evergreens should still be smiling when it begins…and their world will be turned upside down by the time it ends.”
Her lips curved faintly. “It will be done.”
He stepped closer to her, his voice lowering. “Do not fail me, Jessica.”
“I won’t.” She replied, meeting his gaze without flinching.
He smirked slightly. “I admire your confidence. But let’s not forget what happened to the last one who disappointed me.”
A flicker of tension crossed her face, so brief it was almost invisible. “I remember, sir.”

“Good.” His tone softened into something almost conversational, which somehow made it worse. “Because this time, failure will not be forgiven. Not even by accident.”
Jessica’s spine straightened. “You have my word.”
He regarded her for a moment longer before turning away. “The world believes Alina Evergreen has finally found peace.” His voice took on a note of mockery. “How sweet. How fragile. Let’s see how long that illusion lasts.”
Jessica hesitated before speaking again. “And Lucian?”
The man’s hand stilled over a folder on his desk. He didn’t turn. “Leave him to me.”
She nodded slowly. “As you wish.”
Le turned then, meeting her gaze squarely. “Go. Prepare everything. The opportunity won’t come twice.”
She bowed her head. “Understood.”
Jessica turned to leave, but his voice stopped her cold.
“And Jessica-”
She froze, her hand on the door handle. “Yes, sir?”
He didn’t look up. “If you fail me…” His tone dropped to a deadly whisper. “You won’t live to see another
sunrise.”
Jessica’s breath caught for a fraction of a second before she composed herself again. “I won’t fail.”
“For your sake, you better not,” he murmured. “You may go.”
She exited silently, the heavy door clicking shut behind her.
The man sat down again, his eyes sweeping over the documents on his desk before settling on a map pinned to the wall. Red markers dotted key points across Ravinne, Evergreen Manor among them. His gaze lingered there, a slow, wicked smile tugging at his lips.
He leaned back in his chair, voice barely above a whisper. “Let the party begin. Let’s see how the Evergreens fare when the ground beneath them starts to burn.”
The faint ticking of the clock filled the room again, steady, patient, like time itself waiting for the inevitable.
