AUTHOR’S POV
“Now you understand why tracking down that bastard is so crucial, don’t you?” Alina’s voice cut through the quiet room, sharp and tinged with frustration. Her eyes locked onto Talia’s with an unwavering intensity, as if daring her to disagree. Her fingers tapped nervously against the armrest of the chair, betraying the tension she was desperately trying to suppress.
Talia gave a slow, deliberate nod, her face shadowed with solemn understanding. “Yes,” she replied softly, the weight of the situation settling heavily on her shoulders. After a brief pause, a flicker of curiosity broke through her calm exterior. “But… Lucius, Stormvale… why exactly are you searching for him?”
Leaning back, Alina’s sharp features softened momentarily under a veil of weariness. Her voice dropped to a near whisper, yet it carried the full force of her conviction. “I want to find Lucius because maybe—just maybe—I can reason with him. Convince him to reject all this… blood merger nonsense. The forced engagement, the marriage they’ve planned for us.” Her jaw clenched tightly, fists gripping the fabric of her dress as if to anchor herself. “Maybe he’s out there somewhere, living his life freely—perhaps with someone he loves, maybe even a family. If I find him, we might be able to work out an arrangement that lets our families unite without dragging ourselves into this forced marriage.”
Talia exhaled slowly, trying to absorb the heavy truth in Alina’s words. “Okay… I get it,” she said at last, her voice tinged with helplessness. “But…” She hesitated, biting her lip as doubt crept in. “It’s going to be really difficult.”
Alina cocked her head slightly, her eyes sharp and probing. “Why do you say that?”
Talia’s hands clenched subtly, frustration creeping beneath her calm demeanor. “Because we have absolutely no information about him. And we can’t go back to your father’s study—he already caught you snooping around. How do you even begin to search for someone who’s been like a ghost for two decades?” She shook her head, the weight of the impossibility settling in. “And… don’t you think this could be the same person who was stalking you back when we were still in Elaris?”
Alina’s eyes narrowed, the memory sharpening with painful clarity. “I’ve been thinking the exact same thing,” she admitted quietly. “If the person stalking me, Silas, and Elara were working together, then it has to be the same individual.” She let the implication hang heavily between them.
Talia’s brow furrowed deeper, a pressing question emerging. “Then… why not ask Lucian? He’s searching for the same man. Why not just talk to him?”
