Darius stepped forward, clapped his hands once, loud enough to pull everyone’s attention back to him.

“Alright, everyone,” he said, voice firm but reassuring. “The situation has been handled. The party continues. Don’t let this little distraction stop you from enjoying yourselves. There’s plenty of food, plenty of drinks… so please, be merry.”

Guests murmured in agreement, though the tension still clung to the air like static. Still, the music slowly began to rise again, waiters resumed serving, and the ballroom started breathing once more.

Darius turned to Alina.

“Are you okay?”

She nodded. “Yes. I’m fine.”

“Good.” He squeezed her shoulder and exhaled. “I’ll be right back.”

Alina watched him walk out of the ballroom. The determined set of his shoulders told her his destination had everything to do with what just happened.

Before she could follow, Luna touched her arm.

“Relax,” she whispered softly. “You’re safe. Nothing is going to happen to you.”

Alina nodded, but her heartbeat was far from calm.

Just then, Talia and Damien approached, weaving through the guests until they reached her side.

Luna spotted them and immediately straightened.

“Damien, keep an eye on your sister for me, okay? I need to go help settle the guests.”

“Yes, Mother,” Damien said.

Luna kissed Alina’s forehead, then drifted into the crowd, smiling and smoothing over the leftover tension.

The moment she was gone, Alina grabbed Talia’s hands.

“Thank you. Thank you, thank you so much.”

Talia smirked. “Nah. It’s nothing.”

“No, seriously,” Alina pressed. “How did you even get those videos this fast?”

Talia shrugged casually, like it was the simplest thing in the world.

“No.” Alina’s expression shifted, darker, sharper. “Something keeps telling me this is just the beginning.”

Damien nodded like he’d been thinking the same thing all along.

“I believe you. When we intercepted Jessica, she was talking like someone with serious backing. She’s definitely not working alone. And honestly, if we could keep an eye on her, it would help us figure out who she’s connected to.”

Alina shook her head. “There’s no point. Father already has eyes on her. It’ll be impossible for us to trail her on our own.”

“Then what’s your plan?” Damien asked.

“We stick to the lead we had before all this. The daughter of the woman who worked for the Stormvale back then. We find her, we get answers.”

Damien nodded. Talia did too.

Alina exhaled slowly, staring at the glittering ballroom that suddenly felt too small, too bright, too loud.

“But before we do anything…” she murmured, “I need to clear my head.”

Damien dipped his head toward her with that easy little half–smile of his. “I know just the spot for you,” he said, lowering his voice like he was letting her in on a secret. “There’s a balcony tucked away behind the upper lounge, it is quiet, shadowed, overlooking the garden lights. Hardly anyone goes there unless they want to hide.” he added with a wink. “Perfect place to clear your head.”

Alina exhaled, genuinely grateful. “Thank you. That’s… exactly what I need.”

“Mm–hmm. You go breathe,” Talia chimed in, already scanning the room with mischievous eyes. “Meanwhile, I’m going to go entertain myself with some fine men.”

Alina shot her a look. “You have a boyfriend.”
