Chapter 197 Big Bird
Riven’s wings looked like they were glowing. That fiery red practically lit up the whole yard.
“You’re… getting shy again? Wait, don’t tell me you’re about to fly off into the night?”
“No.”
Riven said that yeah, he used to fly out at night to look for food.
But never birds. He didn’t eat other birds. That would be too weird.
He’d go after snakes, maybe wild boars or mountain goats.
But tonight, he wasn’t going anywhere.

He said, “Annelise, I just… I’m scared you’ll suddenly kiss me or poke me like last time. On the back. So…”
“So?”
Riven yanked his wings in tight, folding them completely around himself.
From the outside, he looked like a huge, oval-shaped puff of red feathers.
From inside came his muffled voice. “So I’m hiding!”
Annelise nearly choked from laughing.
“You’re actually hiding because you’re shy.”
“I am not shy! I’m just not used to this!”
Annelise thought, Yep, definitely lying to himself.
“So you promised to sleep next to me tonight. What, you planning to stay out here and sleep in the yard?”
“You go in first.”
She rolled her eyes. “You’re totally shy.”
“Stop saying that! I’m not! I’m 33! What do I have to be shy about?!”
Annelise grinned, “Alright then. You stay out here. I’m going in.”
She started walking toward the bedroom door. Then she heard soft footsteps behind her.
She wondered if he was waddling forward like a giant puffball or if he had cracked his wings open just enough to peek.
So she stopped suddenly and spun around. Riven’s wings had parted a little so he could see where he was going. His face peeked out.
“Wow. Your face is seriously red.”
“Ugh! You were supposed to go inside! Why did you tur around?!”

He rushed to add, “And you’re wrong! My face isn’t red!”
Annelise broke out laughing and walked back over to him.

She stood in front of his feathers and said through the fluff, “Good thing I don’t have neighbors. Otherwise, they’d all be wide awake from that shout of yours.”
Riven actually felt pleased hearing that. Until it hit him. They weren’t alone.
There were other mates in the house.
Which
meant everyone probably heard that outburst.
Riven felt like his face might actually combust.
It burned hot.
“Why the hell aren’t you just going inside?!”
Annelise smirked. She wanted to see if he could actually roast himself like a rotisserie bird.
But she wasn’t that mean.
It was late, and Riven looked exhausted.
So she leaned in closer to his feathers and whispered, “Hey, Riven. You might be warm, but I’m freezing. Why don’t we go inside, together?”
Then she kissed one of his feathers.
It was
The so dy
warm against her lips. The texture felt soft and comforting.
Riven’s body reacted before his brain could. H
And suddenly, they were pressed together.
Annelise could feel his heartbeat pounding.
wings slowly opened, just enough to pull her in.
His body, even under that thin shirt, radiated heat like a personal furnace.
And his face?
It was red enough to drip.
“Little female, you still cold?”
Wow. Even this flustered, Riven still pulled her into his rms the second she said she was cold.
She really loved this bird.
Annelise leaned in and gave him a peck on the lips.
“You’re getting all worked up over nothing. We’re bondel now. And we actually like each other.”
Riven scooped her up and bolted for the bedroom.
