Reborn as the Boss Lady novel Chapter 12

Chapter 12 The Truth Comes Out

In seconds, the floor was a mess of half-digested food.

“What did he eat?”

Wynne turned to look at Jerome. He immediately caught what she meant.

“My oatmeal.”

Silence.

The huge room seemed frozen over, cold as ice.

“Brian, find some lab mice,” Wynne ordered. Her voice was cold.

The little guy in her arms had gone limp after throwing up, his big eyes rimmed red.

Head hurts…

Wynne pressed a specific spot on Dylan’s neck, and he quickly drifted into a deep sleep.

Brian rushed back with the mice. Following Wynne’s instructions, he fed them the leftover oatmeal. Everyone’s eyes were glued to the cage, watching the mice.

But after a long time, the mice were still running around just fine.

“Ms. Sinclair, it’s not the oatmeal,” Brian said bluntly.

The violence and bloodlust deep in Jerome’s bones were on the verge of spinning out of control.

“You go-forget it. Alex, go to Dylan’s room. Look for a white flower. It grows in clusters like wisteria, but with silver edges. Bring it here,” Wynne said with a cold laugh.

But before Alex could move, there was a soft rustling sound. Rolly slithered over with something in its mouth.

Plop. It dropped a cluster of flowers into the mouse cage-exactly matching Wynne’s description.

“Squeak, squeak, squeak…”

The mice, which had been perfectly calm, suddenly went berserk the moment they caught the scent. They tore into each other, biting and killing their own. The cage turned into a miniature hell.

The smell of blood spread through the air.

“Silverveil flower. Its seeds can be ground into a powder, Colorless and tasteless. But over long-term use, it causes irreversible damage to the nerves and internal organs.”

Wynne looked up at Jerome, speaking slowly and clearly, making sure he caught every word.

“Because it has no taste or smell, it’s extremely hard to detect. But everything has a counter. When the flower’s scent mixes with the seed powder, it releases a neurotoxin that triggers instant headaches and drives

people into a frenzy. That’s why Dylan lost control just now.”

“Find out who did it.”

Jerome let out a muffled cough; the fragrance was clearly getting to him too. A metallic taste rose in his throat as a sharp headache hit him, making his already cold, dangerous gaze even darker

He was forcing it down with sheer willpower.

“Tell me Dylan’s going to be okay.”

Jerome looked at Wynne with eyes that were dark, haunting, and chilled her to the bone.

Wynne didn’t answer right away.

The appearance of the flower itself was likely an accident. The real danger was the long-term poisoning from the seeds, which led to total organ failure and death. Right now, Jerome should be more worried about himself than about Dylan.

“I promise. He’ll be fine.”

And so will you.

Wynne’s amber eyes were filled with cold resolve. If someone was trying to take out her meal ticket right under her nose, they were going to have to go through her first!

“Mr. Cromwell, Dahlia took poison. She’s dead.”

Alex came back, his face pale, bringing bad news.

Dahlia Walker, the island’s cook, had worked here for years.

He held out his hand, revealing a small glass bottle filled with brown powder.

Wynne opened it and took a sniff. It was exactly what she thought: ground Silverveil seeds.

“Tell Alex whatever you need. He’ll get it for you.”

Jerome’s voice was low, but experience had taught everyone that he was far more dangerous in this quiet state than when he raged.

Wynne was the first to notice something was wrong. His eyes seemed locked on her, his pupils were actually starting to lose focus. His willpower was terrifying, but his body was about to hit its limit.

The next second, blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.

“Mr. Cromwell!”

Dark clouds filled the sky.

The main bedroom.

After coughing up blood, Jerome’s condition took a sharp turn for the worse. Luckily, the villa had a fully equipped medical room, on par with any hospital, kept ready for emergencies.

Seated by the bedside, Wynne’s delicate face was covered in frost.

Dylan’s body hadn’t accumulated much of the toxin. He’d recover after resting for two days. The real problem was Jerome. The poison in his organs had been building up for years.

He’d always relied on sheer willpower to ignore the pain. But now, that balance had been broken by the scent of the Silverveil flower. The bone-deep agony was coming back at him twice as hard.

For Jerome, losing consciousness was actually his body’s way of protecting itself.

At least it dulled the pain.

“Ms. Sinclair, are you sure you can handle this?”

Alex stared at the row of needles beside her, clearly nervous.

“Shut up.”

Wynne’s expression stayed cold as she reached out to unbutton Jerome’s black shirt. But the moment her hand got close to his collar, Jerome grabbed her wrist in a death grip.

She winced, her brow furrowing.

Even unconscious, he still had that kind of reflex. Wynne sighed.
