Reborn as the Boss Lady novel Chapter 11

Chapter 11 A Strange Scent

Seeing that she was awake, Dylan-wearing a shark pajama that matched Rolly’s hat-lit up. Before Wynne could react, he leaned in and gave her a loud smack of a kiss.

“Morning!”

Wynne pulled Dylan into her arms. She was still a little sleepy, her messy hair spread out across the pillow.

“I’m hungry. Want food.”

Rolly pushed up a custom writing board with its round head.

“Where’s your dad?”

Dylan tilted his cute little head, paused for a second, and then his expression turned sad.

He pointed upward.

In heaven.

Wynne misunderstood and thought he meant Jerome was upstairs. That reminded her of the weird question he’d asked last night-the one he never answered.

As she was lost in thought, Dylan tugged on her arm.

She looked down.

He was holding up the board again, with a little chibi-style arrow pointing at Rolly-the big white python currently chasing the tip of his own tail. To Wynne, the way it moved looked more like a dog than a snake.

“Rolly. My friend.”

Dylan had found Rolly in the backyard when he was three years old.

Sensing its little master was talking about it, Rolly gave up on the silly fight with its tail. Its massive, white head slowly peeked over the edge of the bed.

It locked eyes with Wynne.

I swear I saw shyness in those tiny red eyes!

Wynne was bewildered.

This was the first time she had really looked at the snake glosely. Its scales were pearl white with a faint pinkish tint, well taken care of, no weird snake smell at all. It actually looked refined.

And kind of…

Cute.

Rolly tentatively stretched out the tip of its snowy white tail toward Wynne.

She gave it a pat. Cool to the touch-the same temperature as Jerome’s hand.

“Do you smell something?”

Wynne suddenly lowered her gaze and sniffed the air a couple of times. It was faint, but something felt off.

Dylan just shook his head, looking adorable and confused.

Wynne said nothing. She got up as fast as she could, washed up quickly, then scooped the little guy into her arms and headed out, still trying to figure out where that strange feeling was coming from.

Just as they were about to reach the stairs, Dylan poked her shoulder.

“Hhk, hhk.”

Wynne looked down. The kid was pointing his chubby little finger toward the indoor elevator.

She was speechless.

Right.

An elevator inside the house.

So this is how rich people live.

Outside the villa, in the garden.

Wynne already knew Jerome lived on a private island, but stepping outside made it hit differently. The level of luxury was honestly ridiculous.

This place looked like something out of a fairy tale.

The villa sat right in the center of Sandmere Isle, taking full advantage of the mountains and ocean around it. The whole place felt like a real fairy-tale world. There were even little deer running around the garden.

“Ms. Sinclair.”

Alex suddenly appeared behind her like a ghost.

“Are you looking for something?”

Wynne had been so lost in thought that his voice snapped her right out of it.

She glanced at him.

“Do you smell some kind of fragrance?”

She had followed her instincts to this spot, but after a gust of wind, the scent was gone.

“Ms. Sinclair, we are in a garden,” Alex said in a low voice.

His meaning: there were flowers here. And flowers had fragrance. That was normal.

“Mr. Dylan is throwing a tantrum in the dining room. Mr. Cromwell wants you there.”

“Got it.”

Wynne pushed that strange scent to the back of her mind for now and followed Alex back into the villa.

The second she stepped into the dining area, it was a complete mess.

Dylan was frantically smashing plates and utensils. Across from him, Jerome sat in his wheelchair, his presence heavy and intimidating, his face dark and cold.

It felt just like a replay of what happened in the kids’ room.

“Dylan!”

Instead of calming him down, the shout only made the little guy more frantic.

“Hhk, hhk!”

Dylan went full chaos mode, like a tiny monster on a rampage. Alex rushed forward, but Wynne stopped him.

“Don’t move yet.”

Something was off.

Her eyes were fixed on Dylan’s doll-like face. This was the second time she’d seen him like this. It didn’t feel like a normal tantrum; it felt like he was trying to say something.

“Easy, easy, Mr. Dylan!”

Brian’s massive frame looked weak and helpless as he dodged a flying plate. Smash! The plate shattered against the wall, sending shards flying everywhere.

“Mr. Cromwell!”

Brian was horrified. A fresh cut appeared on Jerome’s pale, handsome face, blood sliding down from the wound.

It made his already dangerous, devilishly beautiful face look even more dangerous.

“Tie him up.”

Jerome’s voice was cold and low, terrifying. And as that order was given, Wynne caught that faint scent again. In a flash, she finally remembered what it was.

“Dylan.”

Her expression turned sharp as she rushed forward and pulled him into her arms.

Dylan’s gaze went blank for a second. He felt two firm pats on his back, and a wave of nausea hit. With a loud retch, he threw up everything in his stomach.
