Reborn as the Boss Lady novel Chapter 14

Chapter 14 Wrong Answer

“Do you have a way to make him let go?”

Wynne raised an eyebrow and asked back. The answer she got was pure silence.

And when their eyes met hers, they quickly looked away.

Nice.

Not a single useful one here.

Wynne even started thinking about whether she should give Jerome another needle when her conscience finally kicked in and reminded her that this man was, after all, a one-hundred-million-dollar client.

Alex watched the phone vibrate again, his brows tightly furrowed.

If things kept getting worse on the Chatwins’ side, they might actually storm the island. And the fact that Jerome was still unconscious absolutely couldn’t be exposed. Otherwise, things would spiral out of control.

“Jerome…”

Wynne tried to keep her voice calm.

“Dylan will wake up tomorrow.”

She was sure this was what Jerome cared about most. After she said it, she confidently waited for him to let go of her hand. But…

One second.

Two seconds.

Three seconds…

No movement at all.

“Ms. Sinclair, I think you got the wrong answer on this one,” Brian whispered.

Wynne shot him a cold glance.

Did I ask you?

Wynne’s conscience, which had just been pulled back by the thought of a one-hundred-million-dollar client, began to waver again. Just as she raised her hand, ready to jab Jerome with a needle, she suddenly thought of something and paused.

“I promise I’ll be back tonight?”

Wynne tested the word toward Jerome on the bed.

Even though she didn’t really expect that answer to work.

The next second, Jerome’s hand-still tightly holding hers-slowly relaxed.

Huh?

Wynne’s lazy expression froze for a moment. Her eyes flickered slightly.

This big boss really is impossible to figure out.

Finished

At the dock.

The usually busy harbor was now under full lockdown. Several black armored cars were parked in formation. The lead man stood there with a cold face, staring at his watch. He carried a sharp, military-like presence that made people instinctively feel fear.

Two minutes left before the 30-minute deadline.

If Wynne still didn’t show up, he would do whatever it took to lead his people onto Sandmere Isle.

A crisis was about to explode.

Time ticked by, second after second. Just as he was about to give the order to storm the island, a black Bentley drove up from a distance.

The window rolled down.

A flawless, bare-faced young woman came into view.

Her long hair fell naturally behind her, making her cold, striking beauty even more distant and sharp.

Their eyes met.

Wynne’s gaze was cold and a little impatient.

The silence stretched on both sides.

Hendrick’s bodyguard, Philip Quint, froze for a moment. Looking into those eyes made him forget what he was about to say.

Even though he had seen her yesterday, he still couldn’t connect this young girl with saving lives.

But she was also their last hope.

“Ms. Sinclair, please get in the car.”

In the end, Philip forced down all his doubts and gestured politely.

Inside the car, Philip frowned. Even though he didn’t say it out loud, his whole body showed clear disapproval.

And that disapproval reached its peak when he saw Wynne take out a lunchbox and start eating.

“Ms. Sinclair, you’re not here for a picnic.”

He had already tried his best to sound polite. But with the Chatwins’ grandson still in danger, her mood to sit there eating lunch made him feel a little angry.

Wynne glanced at him lazily.

“Oh. So you were the one in that café that day.”

Philip’s heart tightened when he heard that. As Hendrick’s bodyguard, he had never shown himself in front of her that day at the café. How did she know he was there?

But after saying that, Wynne lowered her head and went back to eating.

The car fell into silence again.

It took Philip a long moment to find the right word.

So slow.

She held the fork with her pale fingers, calmly placing food into her mouth, chewing slowly and unhurriedly.

Everything about her was slow. Very, very slow.

Like she had no interest in talking to him at all.

He glanced at his watch. Even though the authorities had cleared the route and traffic signals were green all the way, rush hour would still take some time.

Wynne finished her meal, pulled the hood of her black hoodie over her head, covering most of her small face. Only then did she add lazily, “He won’t die.”

“What did you say?”

Philip frowned.

“Stop all emergency treatment. Have someone find three slices of wild ginseng and put them into the kid’s

mouth. Wait for me to arrive.”

Wynne yawned. Her voice was light and tired. After that, no matter how much Philip tried to question her. she said nothing more. Listening closely to her breathing, it almost sounded like she had fallen asleep.

Philip pressed his lips tightly, forcing down his anger as he made a call.

At the hospital, because of Hendrick’s special status, top professors from across the city had gathered. They were all there trying to find the cause of his grandson’s condition. But after a full round of tests, they found nothing. Not only that, the child’s condition was getting worse.

His heart rate was now dropping sharply.

“Ginseng! Three slices of wild ginseng!”

While the group was still arguing over symptoms and results, the bodyguard beside Hendrick suddenly raised his voice after answering a call.

Everyone’s eyes turned to him at once.

“Sir, General…”
