Reborn as the Boss Lady novel Chapter 19

Chapter 19 He’s Dangerous

The others didn’t even have time to react.

“Mind your manners,” Wynne said, her long lashes lowered slightly, voice cold and flat.

“Manners my ass…”

A loud crash rang out. The man who’d just spoken was already pinned by the throat and slammed against the wall. He had no chance to fight back as Wynne drove him into it three times.

Thud!

Thud!

Thud!

Beneath the brim of her hood, her face remained expressionless the entire time. She was like a robot-cold, detached, as if carved from ice.

Then she let go. The man went limp and collapsed to the ground without a sound.

“Anyone else want to try?”

Her gaze swept across the alley. The thugs all started backing away.

“Just you wait!”

They threw out the most classic villain exit line, then scrambled out of the dark alley in a chaotic retreat.

The bloodied teenage boy coughed weakly. Through the haze, a pair of canvas shoes entered his line of sight. A hand pressed against the ground, and before he could react, Wynne was already crouching in front

of him.

A faint, clean scent drifted into his breath.

Then a small hand forced his face upward.

He saw her face under the oversized hood.

Beautiful, clean, and cold…

He struggled to pull together a few words from his limited yocabulary before a sharp headache hit him.

“I called an ambulance for you,” Wynne said coldly. Then she let go of him.

Outside the alley, she could already hear Philip calling her. She stood up and instantly returned to her usual lazy, indifferent posture.

The boy tried to lift his head, but his strength gave out. In the final second before losing consciousness, all he saw was her retreating figure.

Chapter 19 He s Dangerous

At the dock.

Lights blazed across the night.

“Ms. Sinclair.”

Philip looked through the rearview mirror at Wynne, who was resting with her eyes closed in the passenger seat, and called out to wake her.

Wynne opened her eyes and gave a quiet “mm” in response. Just as she was about to get out, Philip spoke again, “Mr. Cromwell… He’s dangerous.”

Although he didn’t know what kind of relationship Wynne had with Jerome, or why she had been allowed to stay on Sandmere Isle, to him, the whole thing was unbelievable.

That island, and the people living on it, were considered forbidden by many.

Even under today’s pressure, if it weren’t absolutely necessary, Philip wouldn’t have given the order to force entry onto the island.

Wynne turned back to look at him, her gaze cold and quiet.

“This is just my advice,” Philip said.

The car fell silent.

Then Wynne smiled. The night blurred every trace of expression on her face, but the faint aggression in her eyes wasn’t something she bothered to hide.

She said lightly, “Believe it or not. I’m more dangerous than him.”

With that, she got out of the car, carrying her things, and walked toward the waiting Bentley.

She instinctively reached for the passenger door.

It didn’t open.

Wynne raised a brow, dangerous and faintly amused. What was this supposed to mean?

She tapped her fingers impatiently against the dark car window. In response, the rear window slowly slid down with a soft mechanical sound.

A man’s face came into view.

Strikingly handsome, almost unreal in its perfection, but pale in a way that looked unwell. The corners of his eyes were faintly red, dangerous and blood-tinged, his expression melting into the night so seamlessly it

was hard to read.

“Mr. Cromwell?”

Wynne blinked slightly. For a moment, she genuinely thought she was seeing things. She hadn’t expected him to come in person.

“Get in the car.”

Jerome’s voice was hoarse and low, followed by a muffled cough.

Wynne got in and sat down beside him.

The car started moving.

She let out a lazy yawn, the corner of her lips curving into something that wasn’t quite a smile. Even she didn’t seem to realize that her mood had improved the moment she saw him again.

“Mr. Cromwell, are you worried I wouldn’t come back?” Wynne asked, leaning back against the leather seat, her body completely relaxed as she tilted her head to look at him. Her tone was light, teasing.

Jerome stared straight ahead, expression blank. His gaze was as cold as the deep sea-distant, sickly restrained.

“You’re overthinking it,” he said coldly, not even glancing at her.

Wynne dragged out a soft “oh,” clearly unconvinced.

She yawned again, shifting her gaze out the window as her eyelids began to grow heavy.

“Wynne…”

The car passed through an underwater tunnel. All light was swallowed by darkness.

“Mm…”

She answered absentmindedly, already half asleep.

“What happened today…”

Jerome hadn’t finished speaking when he suddenly felt a weight settle on his shoulder. At the same moment, the Bentley drove out from the tunnel, and light poured back into the dim interior.

Brian, who was driving, only glanced at the rearview mirror out of habit, but his hand jerked violently on the wheel.

In the back seat, Wynne had somehow fallen asleep on Jerome’s shoulder.

Damn, this is bad.

Mr. Cromwell was a serious clean freak. If he got angry…

Brian hunched his shoulders instinctively, but his eyes still flicked to the mirror. And there, he met a pair of cold eyes.

He immediately straightened up and looked away.

Pretending he saw nothing.

Jerome didn’t push Wynne away. She was sleeping soundly, even unconsciously leaning a little closer toward the side of his neck. The oversized black hoodie made her bare, makeup-free face look even paler—

so pale that even the faint blue veins beneath her skin were faintly visible at this distance.

Her face was barely the size of his palm.
